| Quote: | North Korea says standoff with US at "brink of nuclear war"
North Korea said Friday the standoff over its atomic ambitions was on the brink of nuclear war as US Vice President d**k Cheney headed to the region for talks with key Asian allies.
The Stalinist state's official news agency accused Washington of "driving the military situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of a nuclear war" with plans for a pre-emptive strike on North Korea.
Cheney is expected in Tokyo on Saturday on the first leg of an Asian tour that also takes him to China and South Korea.
North Korea described six-party talks held in Beijing in February as "fruitless," their harshest assessment so far of the meeting that brought together the two Koreas, China, Japan, Russia and the United States.
"The US demand that the DPRK (North Korea) scrap its nuclear programme first is the main obstacle in the way of solving the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the US," the Korean Central News Agency said in a commentary.
"It is a well-known fact that the second round of the six-way talks held in Beijing last February proved fruitless due to the US demand that the DPRK dismantle its nuclear program first."
Washington is demanding the complete, verifiable, and irreversible dismantling of North Korea's nuclear prorgammes, both plutonium and enriched uranium schemes, before it will offer concessions to the impoverished state.
Pyongyang denies having a uranium programme and has said it will freeze its plutonium weapons programme in return for simultaneous rewards from Washington.
A new round of six-party talks is expected before the end of June while working parties are supposed to be set up to resolve address contentious issues.
South Korea's foreign ministry said all participating countries were ready for working level talks apart from North korea, which has yet to give the go ahead.
In the commentary the North Korean news agency said Pyongyang had no choice but to boost its nuclear weapons drive in the face of US intransigence and its "moves to put the strategy of pre-emptive nuclear attack into practice."
Cheney's trip to Asia has been overshadowed by the deteriorating security situation in Iraq where insurgents are threatening to kill three Japanese hostages unless Tokyo pulls out troops from the war-torn region.
Seven South Koreans were released earlier Friday after also falling into the hands of insurgents. |
On a good note, am on the east coast, so any nuke strikes will be in CA...so will only get some of the fallout from high up in the atmosphere here.

We could always strategically bomb anywhere we knew had nuclear weapons research. Nuclear power is something that should be earned :\

I was under the impression that North Korea could build nukes but did not have any long-range delivery method. They could certainly nuke the countries around them which isn't desirable either but I'd be shocked if they could reach Hawaii, much less California.

That's what I was going to say. I thought they recently aquired the ability to reach the western tip of alaska or something. The real concern it what they could do in south korea and japan.

If korea wants nuclear power to improve their standard of life I think that would be *ok*. They really have no legitimate reasons to want nuclear weapons though other than to say "we're right because we have nukes".

We've known that N Korea has nuclear missiles that could reach California since early 2003, but I believe they've never actually flight tested them. So they probably wouldn't work. But you never know.

Can you post a link for this? I just looked this up again. The best I could find was that we knew they were developing a long range missilie in 2003 that would be capable of hitting Hawaii or Alaska. It did say that they had numerous short-range and mid-range missiles that could threaten Asia...but I couldn't find anything that said they actually had any missiles with longer ranges.

I'm pretty sure Japan got p****d off because North Korea was shooting their test missiles into the ocean.

Not sure if that's the same stuff you saw:
| Quote: | Washington -- North Korea could hit West Coast cities with a nuclear-tipped missile, Central Intelligence Agency chief George Tenet told a Senate committee Wednesday.
Vice Admiral Lowell Jacoby, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, confirmed the statement, adding, however, that the missile has not yet been flight tested. The statements were the first time that top officials have said publicly that North Korea's Taepo Dong 2 missile could reach as far as California.

I bet if you get together enough highly qualified engineers they will eventually be able to get a missile that is as good as ours.

It's the same missile. I think the articles were either from an earlier date or stated North Korea was still developing it because it still hadn't been tested.
Truthfully, would North Korea attempt to use one of their few nukes in an untested missile? They don't have more than a handful of warheads. Launching one at the United States would be a fool's gamble. There's a good (almost definite) chance they would be nuked in return. That's a bad risk when you don't even know if your own missile will hit.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we had a geostationary satellite with countermeasures parked right over Korea. NASA dose a lot of classified satellite deployments that we never hear about.
I actually am a fan of Regan’s Star Wars.

One of the coolest things I've seen in LA is a few years back when they test fired a ICBM laser countermeasure on an actual missle.
I can't tell if it worked or not, I heard they had to detonate the missle, but to see one of those f*****s go up for real and then explode in a fire ball makes your nuts shrivel up.
There was a slow streak up in the sky, like a commet that you cuold see through the clouds then it kind turned green in the sky and either the rocket fule or the particles reentering the atmoshphere turned a hugh f*****g section of sky into a green, glowing cloud. It was unreal.
I hope it worked =/

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position of where it is to a position where it isn't and arriving at a position where it wasn't -- it now is. Consequently, the position where it is is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not that the position that it wasn't the system has acquired a variation. The variation being the difference between where the position is and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows: because of variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't within reason and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation -- which is called air.

We could bomb/nuke SK before they launched anything at anyone if we wanted. They are just trying their pity us, look at the bad US crap. They already had a deal where they wouldn't get nukes for favors from Clinton. They renegged and did it anyway. I am glad we aren't giving them shit in good faith. It would be stupid to do so.
Should just tell them to enjoy their nukes, be happy, and starve to death
North Korea's leader watches CNN a lot, he will put out statements, the same statements hes been saying just to get coverage and see himself. When he stops getting coverage, he makes new shit up like this stuff.

North Korea's beloved leader is an attention w***e. That's what it boils down to. We should send him millions of e-mails linking that picture of the girl doing a handstand or whatever on the beach that says "attention w***e".

I was thinking the same thing.
If it were THAT easy, don't you think everyone would have it? The US is elite for a reason.
