It didn't say what school, could be a middle school, whereas no one there would be older than 13 (right?). So maybe they are using the basis that they are not old enough to sign up for myspace anyway (site said 14+).../shrug...

It doesn't say if those measures were put in place at her school... either way though, I don't see how it's up to the school to enforce an agreement between two parties that happen outside the school and have nothing to do with it.
What's next - suspending people for having an unhealthy diet?
A myspace profile can be completly harmless with only very few precautions. All it takes is a parent to look at the profile once and make sure there is no personal information on it. Instead of banning it, wouldn't it make more sense to dedicate some time in school to warn kids of the dangers and encourage them to explain their parents how it works?

The video of the mother mourning for her dead 14 year old girl was the "best part"? They "deserved this"?
If this is what you are saying then you are just as bad as the sick individual who murdered that little girl.

My high school banned ebaums world. They blocked the site and anyone who was caught looking at it on any of the school's computers were punished, but I dont remember what the punishment was. Could be the same thing with the MySpace in the one school.

when I was in high school my school blocked realpoor because I was I was reading a thread about 2 lesbians trying to make a son who was deaf or soemthing like that. Despite if being a link from CNN or something my keyboarding teacher found it offensive and blocked it. Big loss.

No, I wasn't talking about the mother mourning her child part. The end of the video struck me as slightly ironic, the young boy who represents so many of the dumb kids who use the sight.
I apologize for the disrespect. My amusement was not found in the actual murder of the girl, but you can say what you want.

I didn't. Knew you were a eurosocialist, no idea what corner you called home. Now I know you live in one the frozen places.
So, link me the details about the kids who got in trouble from school employees because they had a "myspace" web site.
Link me the details that you must have already scoured over.

The only lesson learned here is that there are people out there with nothing better to do than to prey on kids who do not know any better.
Who knows how long this person spent gaining the trust of this little girl. Kids at that age know to avoid strangers but when its someone they think they know its nothing more than a child predator doing his/her worst. To blame the dead 14year old girl, her family, or her school is stretching it.
Don't forget to give the actual murderer some of the blame too.

Dimwit.
I think you need to bone up on what is what and who is who. Then you can make educated statements.
| Quote: | | Kevin Bankston, an attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said unfortunately private schools can do what they want, but a blanket ban such as this one at a public school would be "totally illegal." |
Private schools are just that, private schools. They cost money, its a voluntary thing. You abide by the rules and you can stay, don't like the rules? You can leave. Its that simple.
Private is private, public is public.
Do you understand?

Maybe it is you who needs help:
Very first paragraph
| Quote: |
In what some student free-expression advocates say is an alarming trend, students at both public and private schools are being punished for Internet postings made off school grounds on Web sites not affiliated with the schools. |
| Quote: |
In November, school officials in Oceanport agreed to pay a former student $117,500 to settle a lawsuit the student filed claiming his First Amendment rights were violated after administrators punished him for material posted on his Web site.
The settlement comes as a result of an April 3 decision in which a U.S. District Court found Oceanport School District officials violated Ryan Dwyer’s right to free speech. |
Here's some more - 5 actual cases, only from public schools:
http://www.freedomforum.org/packages/first/censorshipinternetspeech/part3.htm
You'll find that the one case that went too far was someone (mockingly, I'd think) collecting donations to hire a hitman for his teacher...

Apples
Private schools can make speech rules you might not like, tough shit go to a public school.
Oranges
Idiots in a public school might try to make stupid rules that violate freedom of speech, don't like it? Sue them, its not legal. Make some cash. Your link proves this.
Your point?
Do you need more detailed information or can you get it from this alone?

I can't believe people still use MySpace. It's the shittiest of the "social networking" sites and among the worst f*****g sites on the internet. It was cool for about 4 seconds.
