If so I demand Zyk, Venk and I go get plastered and find some strippers to celebrate with.

Since they won....I will get the boos and you and Zyk can handle the strippers. Where we meeting?

I was so f*****g glad the Steelers won. The Broncos couldn't have gotten past Indy at home I don't think. They are going to have to step up their play if they are going to beat the Steelers in Denver and the Seahawks in the Detroit.

no one even considering carolina, yes the bears didn't play even close to what they normally do but they where playing unstopable in the last two games.... steven smith over 200yds and 2 tds on the bears... it hurts because i'm a bears fan but i have a feeling they could destroy my seahawks too.

I'm telling you, when Delhomme finds his rhythm between Smith, Foster, Goings and Proehl, there is no team in the NFL that can defensively stop them. The bears did a great job tightening up when Carolina reached their red zone but it still wasn't enough. I think the Bears would have had a better shot if they used Orton instead of that fresh Rex Grossman. Have they not seen Carolina's defense this year? I almost felt bad for Grossman. He was getting torn apart on Sunday and he is VERY fortunate he did not give up more interceptions than he did. There was about 4-5 passes that we should have intercepted, but lost.

Now we lost Foster, but I noticed Fox was using Julius Peppers on offense Sunday and it was throwing off the Bears defense marvelously. If we can replace foster with Goings, and get smith/peppers out there as our 2 hot receivers then the seahawks are going to be playing a guessing game for 4 solid quarters. You also have to take into account that Alexander had a recent concussion and could be out for the next game. I'll have to read up on that, but if he is out for the next game then I think the seahawks are going to be another meal for Carolina's defense.

Most of all I am proud to see Delhomme proving all the nay-sayers wrong. This year he is playing safe, cool, and consistent which is exactly what wins championships. I think its high time he gets the respect he deserves. It's almost like people don't remember superbowl 38...
Quote:
With Sunday's win at Chicago, in which he threw three touchdown passes, Delhomme is now an impressive 5-1 in six playoff starts. The starting quarterbacks for the other final four franchises are a combined 6-6 and, of that group, Ben Roethlisberger of Pittsburgh (3-1) is the only other starter with a winning record. In those six starts, the only loss coming to New England in Super Bowl XXXVIII, Delhomme completed 98 of 157 passes for 1,446 yards, with 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He has thrown for 270 yards or more four times and has two 300-yard performances and two games with three touchdown passes each. His quarterback rating of 108.5 in the postseason is 24 points higher than his regular-season rating. The postseason ratings of the other three starters: Roethlisberger, 89.1; Matt Hasselbeck (Seattle), 84.4; and Jake Plummer (Denver), 73.9.

All the teams I wanted to win are out now. I have nothing left to root for except seattle losing. I guess it would be cool if Bettis got a ring before he retired, but the steelers? Bleh, they barely made the playoffs.

How do they decide who wears their home jerseys in the Super Bowl? I guess the alternate NFC and AFC every year.

If that is the case then AFC will wear away this year...or am I wrong?

edit:

Found our answer...

The designated "home team" alternates between the NFC team in odd-numbered years (the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005), and the AFC team in even-numbered years (the New England Patriots in 2004). The home team is given the choice of either wearing their colored jerseys or their white ones; this started with Super Bowl XIII. Prior to that, the home team always wore the dark jerseys. The Dallas Cowboys wore their rarely-used blue uniform tops in Super Bowl V, and lost to the then-Baltimore Colts, which has led to the widely-held belief that the Cowboys do not play well in their blue shirts. While most home teams in the Super Bowl choose to wear their colored jerseys, only the Cowboys in XIII and XXVII and the Washington Redskins in XVII have worn white as the home team.

Oh nice,

Trivia

* The Super Bowl uses Roman numerals to identify each game, rather than the year it was held. The NFL season spreads over two calendar years, so identifying the games by the year of the Super Bowl could cause some confusion. For example, the New England Patriots, winners of Super Bowl XXXIX are the champions of the 2004 NFL season, even though the championship game was played in February 2005.

* In 1994, the 49ers became the first team to wear a throwback jersey during the Super Bowl. Since it was the league's 75th season, every team wore a throwback jersey during the season and San Francisco decided to continue to wear their jerseys all the way through the playoffs and into Super Bowl XXIX. The jerseys they wore paid tribute to the 1957 team.

* In the months leading up to Super Bowl XXX (or Super Bowl Thirty), some proxy servers were blocking the web site for the upcoming event. Many proxy servers' filters were configured to block the text string "XXX" whenever occuring to prevent access to pornography. As a result, additional settings were necessary to grant exceptions for other uses of "XXX".

* Super Bowl XXXVI was originally scheduled to be played on January 27, 2002. But the game was moved back one week to February 3, 2002 because of the September 11, 2001 attacks. This was the first Super Bowl to be played in February. With the exception of Super Bowl XXXVII on January 26, 2003, all of the succeeding Super Bowls have been scheduled for February. Also, because of the attacks, the Super Bowl is now a National Special Security Event (NSSE).

* Super Bowl XXXIX was the first such game to be tied after three quarters of play.

* No American Football Conference (AFC) team has ever won a Super Bowl that was broadcast on ABC (The NFC is currently 6-0). The closest an AFC team came to winning the Super Bowl on that network was when the Buffalo Bills lost to the New York Giants 20-19 in Super Bowl XXV.

* The NFC won 13 Super Bowls in a row from 1985 to 1997, starting with Super Bowl XIX. The AFC broke the streak in 1998 in Super Bowl XXXII when Denver beat the defending champion Packers. Since then, the AFC has won 6 out of 8 Super Bowls.

* The last Super Bowl to start at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time was Super Bowl XI which was played in Pasadena. This is also the last Super Bowl which was played outside to not end in dusk. Since the early 1980s Super Bowls have been starting at around 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The kickoff has been since moved back to 6:30 p.m. Eastern starting with Super Bowl XXXVII.

Well its sunday again. Time to revive the football thread.

This first game is going to own. They are already having trouble calling a pittsburg fumble. I think whoever scores first is going to have the best chance to hold the advantage and eventually win the game.

Well denver certainly got their butts kicked. Was an impressive win by the Steelers and I will be happy for Bettis if he gets his superbowl. I'm not looking forward to every sportscast for the next two weeks having an extended segment about "the bus" though, where we will get to learn what he was inspired by in high school, what kind of toothpaste he uses, and hear funny stories from his mom about what a little rascal he was a kid.

This is freaking embarrassing. I need to take a break or im going to start yelling at the TV.

Jake the fake seems to have showed up tonight. If he doesn't start looking before he passes then this is going to only get worse. An offense can't perform if the bloody QB doesn't know how to control his own football... This is not panthers football...this is Jake's funniest home videos.

Well Denver got a game further than they should've. They had a soft schedule this year, they weren't that great.

Bring on Seattle, please. God, Carolina in the Superbowl would be lame.

Jake whats-his-nutts isn't playing worth shit.

Why on earth he's passing into three man coverage with 10 seconds left and 60 yards to go is a mystery.

Panthers suck. Shithawks should carry the win easily.

Its simple. Seattle's defense is playing harder than anyone from carolina anticipated. Seattle's strength lies in superior offense. Carolina's strength lies in a balanced defense and explosive offense. When the QB is not performing, the offense is muted and the defense is exhausted early with low morale.

Although Jake does have a reputation to play good 2nd halfs, he gave up way too many chances to move the ball during the first half. Smith can't perform if Jake is just going to throw the ball away all day.

Its only a 13 point gap, so while its not over, its going to be a major uphill battle from here on out. Remember awile back I said Jake needed to distribute the ball evenly? Well I say it again tonight. Even without foster/goings they can beat Seattle's defense easily. Its up to Jake thoug hto get things rolling, otherwise this game is already over.
