I think that's stupid.
So do most native americans.
I live in oklahoma, one of the biggest hubs I guess for native americans.
They're talking abuot doing the same to highschool teams around here, even though the majority of the states natives, don't think it's right to do so.

the loudest voice which is usually the smallest group gets heard the most.
IE. Soccer moms thought that we might be offending some indians, not that those soccer moms know any indians.

I've heard a few Indians refer to other Indians as mo'nigs, as in "he's mo'nig than Indian."
Lot of interbreeding between Indians and blacks.

The town I last lived in, in NY, was Nyack-on-Hudson. The high school team was the Indians. There has been a battle over that name for a few years now. People coming out of the woodwork over it creating editorials, meetings, etc.
No clue if they finally changed it.
