First of all, I haven't actually played yet, but I'm planning to start some time soon. Based on what I've read about it so far, Eve seems to be a fascinating project, with a very interesting concept and a strangely dynamic economic model. What I'm not sold on yet is the execution of it all; I've heard vaguely negative remarks about the immersiveness of the game, and also (in relation to the former) about the visual aspect of it. Anyone care to comment on that?

Comment on what, exactly? I mean, yeah, I have a general idea of what kind of negative comments you're talking about, but it's kind of hard to debunk unstated claims. For what it's worth, EO is among the most immersive games I've ever played, MMO or otherwise. And if the "visual aspect" bit is about the lack of an actively present avatar, I'd just like to say that a person who doesn't consider the game immersive just because he can't see "himself" onscreen all the time probably won't like EO too much.
