First off, these are just MY recommendations for what to do. It's very efficient for xp. Don't like it? I don't give a f**k...

If you have played before and know how everything works then just choose to skip the tutorial after creating your char. This will automatically put you on the newbie isle at lvl 2 with the equipment you got from the ship.

2-6 - Simply run the quests you are given by your "trainer" on the island. You can do other quests there but in the city are other quests which give you better items overall. The first quest is to kill a gruttooth invader and go back to the guy on the beach. This is quick and easy. The next two depend on your class. So I can't go too much into them but they really are quick and easy. The fourth quest is the same for all classes except the quest item that you will be given is a bit different. Basically kill 4 Gruttooth Brutes and go back. The fifth quest is to go a cave at the NE of the island and kill an orc there. You NEED to have a group for this, there is absolutely no way to do it solo so don't even try. There are 6 mobs in two groups of three in the cave. The first three are 2 melee and 1 caster usually. Kill the caster first and then take out the two fighters with your group. After these three are dead the other three including the named orc will come after you. Take out the orc first as he hits pretty hard. Return to your trainer for the xp and you should be lvl 5 or 6. On your way out be sure to get close to the big tree there as it gives free xp for discovering it. Do the artisan quest in the mage tower as well. This will get you to one crafted item below 4.

After this leave the island. To do this talk to the duke then to the ambassador in the building next to the duke. You will then talk to the duke a second time. After talking to him go back to the docks and go to the one on the left. Right click the bell and choose to ring it (for some reason double clicking on this one bell doesn't seem to work well).

You will then be in your city. The first thing to do is get citizenship. Don't bother talking to NPC's for quests at this point, just run through the citizenship thing. You will first go to your room, then to the bank, back to your room, then to the entrances to any newbie zone yards that are connected to your village. Don't bother going in. Then it's back to your room (just follow the glowy stream) and then it's off to get the actual citizenship. You will get an application from near a gate, do the quest on the paper. This is usually gathering tokens from a newbie yard, haven't seen any other quest yet for it. Once you have the tokens return to the sign and double click it. You will zone into a place called "Becoming a xxxx citizen". Talk to the NPC and then proceed to kill the NPC's inside (for Qeynos people there is one NPC you have to let go). After the last one you will get some items and xp and probably lvl to 7. The items are a weapon, a ring, and a book. Equip the items and read the book. Leave the zone and you should appear back in your home village.

Now you will want to simply run around talking to every NPC and getting every quest you can. Be sure to especially talk to the armorsmiths and weaponsmiths as they give some decent weapons and armor for rewards usually. Once you feel you've talked to everyone look at your journal and determine which ones you can complete without going to another zone. There are usually one or two. After you complete any in zone ones look for the "fed-ex" quests to other villages. Use the mariner's bell that is located in each village to go between them and complete what you have been given. If you see an NPC motioning you to come talk to them do it. After completing all the quests you can in the village you are in now return to your home village as you probably need to talk to the originating NPC. Take another look at your quests, making sure to look at whatever quests you got in the village you just visited for the other quest(s) and see if any wanted you to come to your originating village. Repeat through these quests for the time that you have them.

If you run out of these look for quests that are in the city itself. Do them as you can. If you are out of in city quests move to the ones in the newbie yards. Once you hit lvl 9, stop doing these quests and look at your journal under the Hallmark heading. You need to do the quest for your subclass.

Do this quest and you should end up near lvl 10 or 10 itself. This quest involves doing three tasks, choosing your class, and then going to an instanced zone alone. This instanced zone will depend on which class you chose and will just be some door somewhere (For freeport the enchanter one is inside a bar, and the shaman one is outside just off the road. For Qeynos scouts it's in Qeynos Harbor just through an arch near the NFP zone I think it was). Once you complete it return to your trainer and you will then get xp and if you lvl will be that class. If you don't level then just go do a couple quests and you will be 10 in no time.

Post 10 this is my suggestion. Group, always group. If you can't find a group then run quests. Never solo fight mobs that aren't part of a quest as it's a waste of time when it comes to gaining XP. Obviously in between running quests and what not be sure to explore the zone you are in. Each one has a landmark usually that gives some minor xp for finding it.

The book you got after becoming a citizen will give some ok xp for simply running around as well. Never got around to finishing either of them (Qeynos was broken when I was trying to do it and Freeport I just haven't done the last item on my list yet).
