I had just turned my computer off (power off) then gone to bed. A few minuted later I hear this whiring noise. I figure it's the dishwasher doing something funny. I get up and then realise it's comming from the computer. The monitors are off but the fans are going and the LEDs are lit. So I figure it didn't shutdown right. I power it down again and go back to bed. About 10 seconds after I get in bed it boots itself up again.
What the heck could be causing this?

Update!
After all that I thought I would get a drink before going to bed again. So I went into the kitchen and as I was getting a glass out I knocked one over. Being pitch black there wasnt much I could do and it fell and smashed on the floor. Good news is my feet took no damage.
What will happen next... hmm...

Idiot. you forget most modern fans use a molex connector due to the power drain they have on the motherboard, and LEDs and Fan power are completely different systems.

I don't think so, and no packets should get getting routed to that box anyway. Besides that is only for power down mode not a compleate power off right?

I think wake-on-lan works as long as the actual power supply is plugged in and switched on (if it has it's own switch in the back). If the motherboard is plugged into the power supply with wake-on-lan, it can turn the power supply on just like front power switch on your box.

Yeah, sounds like Wake on LAN or something similar. Either that or an extremely f****d up mobo/PSU
