So, is that going to be the official party line here? Are mutants just going to be like characters who cast spells in other games (WoW, GW, whatever), and either nuke the enemy or buff allies? This, to me, is a cheap cop-out. Like in AO where we had nanotech taking the place of magic…

You should at least get some half-way reliable information before you start your rant.
I'll just say that you would not be the first to express suspicions of that kind, and so far the Icarus people have been doing their best to avail them by providing relevant previews and even assuring us directly that mutations are not going to be anything like magic in fantasy games.
