Ok.. bear with me, I'm not too great at describing this.. most songs have a sort of rough pattern they tend to follow in how they are arranged..
for instance... a song will go through a verse, a refrain, a verse, a refrain, then SOMETHING, then a refrain... or similar to that....
what is this SOMETHING called? It's not quite a verse, not quite a refrain, it's.. like... a verse leading into a refrain that tends to break away from the tempo/key of the rest of the song.. like a climax or... gah I can't think of any better way to describe this, sorry...
does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I tottaly was moshing in my car, I had my lighter out and shit, it ruled!

At the beginning of a song its called a 'hook'. When its in the middle like you described, its a 'bridge'.

yea... we always got a kick outta that in band 
so next time somone says "this song is retarded" they just might mean its slow in tempo!
use it in a sentance folks!
example:
My brother likes retarded techno music.
