I know a couple guys with GSXR-600s they love them. Plenty of power. Also look at the Yamaha R1 it's a great bike too.

i got that one in canada brand new for $7200. a few thousand cheaper there for some reason.

If ya didnt want to go to canada, I'd head as far north as you can, because bike season is almost over in the northern states, and you will get it cheaper because of that.

if you want it real cheap, visit a local auction place.

Like the time I had my feet crossed up over the windshield on my Yahama R6 honking the horn then my pant leg caught the bars and it went down and slid into a fire hydrant?

Will this be a first bike? If so then your not too bright buying a Gixxer 750. IF this is a frist, then I would suggest getting a cheap, Ninja EX500 or somethig similar to learn on. Point is, you will most likely go down at some point while learning. Why would you want to do it on a $7-8k bike? I learned on a '92 PoS Katana before I bought my '03 R6. Buy a PoS, ride it around for a few months to get the feel for things, then buy a nice bike.

Also, why a 750? Like I said I have an R6, I've had it up to almost 170 MPH(like 168 indicated or somethin). How fast do you need to go? Regardless, your not gonna get anything out of buying a larger displacement bike unless you have the skills to use it. A skilled rider on an 600cc bike would SPANK an average rider on a 750, or even a liter bike for that matter, on the track. You mentioned being tall, but a 600 and a 750 are basically the same damn thing, IE, if it didn't have the sticker on it saying what size it was, you'd have a hard time telling them apart.

Well if you want to stick to the true "rocket" bikes get a GSXR 750 or 600 (600 would be plenty of power). Yamaha R6 is a great bike also.

Really any more performance is so close between all the rice bikes that what you need to do is just go sit on them and see what feels best between your legs. The GSXR will be a bit wider and might feel better for taller people.

I have ridden the R6/R1, GSXR's, Honda CBR 600/1000 and the GSXR just felt the best.

Hope this helps Smile

Well, technically this would be my first bike that I own, I have had boyfriends with bikes in the past that I have "borrowed".

Why GSXR? They are a good all around bike, and I have tested a few. It also feels the most comfortable for me, I am 5'10", my husband is 6'2" and of course he is going to want to use the bike, hence my decision for the 750 as opposed to the 600.

Although, as of last night I talked to a friend in vegas who needs to get rid of his 03' GSXR 600 and all I would have to do is take over his payments.... so I may end up with a 600 after all.

What I was looking for in advise was, how do I tell if it's been dropped and repaired? What do I look for as far as normal wear vs abuse aside from the obvious?

to see if it's been dropped i'd look at these common places......

The underside plastics of the engine. look for scratches in the paint on each side. you sometimes might not be able to tell by standing, get down there.

Handles, grips, mirrors, blinkers. if these look brand new compared to the rest of the bike, then they've been replaced and are a good sign it was dropped.

fairing stay. make sure the windshield looks symetrical on each side.

dropping a bike happens. most people end up doing it once or twice. it's the sliding and thumping you have to watch out for. that's where you risk hurting the frame. nothing else matters too much if it's riding straight and no vibrations if it did fall over before.

this isn't the R1, I think it's the R6. R1 has the exhaust pipe under the seat.

The new R1 model has the undertail exhaust, this is the last model I believe. Also before buying a sport bike, check with your insurance company about costs. I ride a GSXR600 and pay a lot more than if I would have gone with a SV650. I pay $750 per year for comp and collision with $500 deductables at age 32 with no tickets on my record. Naked bikes tend to be a lot cheaper insurance wise and on the street the performance difference isn't really needed unless you really want the look (which is why I bought the GSXR).
