More Female Gamers Thanks to Wii

Girls are playing video games in greater numbers according to a new 2009 study by NPD conducted last April.

The study finds that the Wii has attracted a much larger number of females than ever before. And not just girls, boys are playing Wii in greater numbers too. The study shows that Wii usage overall has increased by 19% from last year.

The biggest highlight of the study says that females now make up 28% of the console gaming demographic, which is up from 23% in 2008.

a neighborhood girl was watching our dogs while my wife and I were gone, and she came over the day after we got home to make sure she did a good job ect... little to my knowledge Girl Gammer, 18 if you boys are looking.

She demands everyone play guildwars. LOL

true. lol, but i'm sure theres a lot of studies showing that a lot more girls/women getting into games.

Younger guys have wii's, and women who own a console are most likely to have a wii, mainly because of wii fit.

really looking for women playing online games or games period is like looking for a needle in a haystack. NOT GONNA HAPPEN EASY! lol. but if i do find one that looks good and everything well I'm gonna marry her!!! now point me to the Wii's i want to see these women.

omg saying a girl plays the wii does not constitute as a gamer!! (well, a TRUE gamer)
I am 22 yrs old, female, and I have been gaming for years (granted I started on the nintendo, but am pretty good playing pc)

My games consist of:
DotA
WoW (level 80 fully Epic pally)
Starcraft
CS Source (though my stupid lappy doesnt support)

AND if my pc would support it i'd be instantly playing Fear AND left for dead!
you cant say that playing a bit of mario kart makes a girl a gamer (i must admit I have a wii and play my boyfriends xbox now and again) BUT if they dont like the hardcore gaming like Starcraft or DotA coz it isnt 'pretty' or too difficult then they arent a gamer.
I love it when my boyfriend is raiding and he says, 'need a healer? I'll get my GF to log on' and everyone is like, 'omg r u serious?' and even more when they realise im not a noob.

lol....as a side note, I NEED A NEW COMPUTER SO I CAN PLAY SOURCE AND L4D! any donations my way so I can build an epic sick tower would make my day...I can even try and recruit some of my friends! (lol, may as well try.....I have paypal ) Wink
