No this isn't gay ass Monster Rancher thing. It's by Capcom and it's a combination of Phantasy Star Online (Action RPG) + I dunno like a tradeskill type X factor.
The game has no storyline, not like it's bad or whatever, it just doesn't have one. You're a hunter. You go around killing monsters (basically dinosaurs and dragons) for missions to the city. You don't gain any levels. All youre upgrades come from building new armor and weapons. For instance to make newbie armor you have to kill some deer for leather and these huge herbivor dinosaurs for their bones to make some tribal like bone armor.
This is one of those game where you are weaker than every single monster and boss pretty much all the time. You have to use special tactics to kill anything. You build traps, make bombs, have people lure it with meat, etc. It f*****g rules. This is a HARD game especially in the beginning then it gets a little easier then much harder again. This is the type of game where the enemy will rape you in the ass, leave you bleeding, only for you to find out on the way home that you now have AIDS.
The reviews for the most part have sucked balls. The reason is that you have to do 5 tutorial quests before the game really starts, and the fact that they are so boring plus the game is so hard then that for the first 2-3hrs this game makes you want to throw the controller at the TV screaming b******t. While some of this games difficulty is cleverly designed, a lot is just becuase the mechanics aren't very well done and you have to learn around them.
Don't let this stop you, even with these serious flaws this game is still an orgasm is PS2 form. Also if you don't have online capabities this game is A LOT harder and A LOT LESS more fun, offline mode really doesn't compare to online. There is no jacking of loot etc online becuase everyone gets to carve the monsters an equal number of times, it's really fun. Go buy it.

If you get off your f*****g high horse and read the reader reviews you would see that people say the same thing.
I am so sick and f*****g tired of people bashing critic reviews because its the thing to do. Sometimes they do actually write good reviews and have something to say, but you a******s are so f*****g anal that you won't listen to a g*****n word they say.

Dude, I play more games then possibly anyone in the USA, if there are harder gamers then it's not by much. I didn't like Viewtiful Joe, now maybe this was due to some subconscious reason like the color patterns in it affected my brain negatively. But more likely the game was reverse-hype and nothing more. To break it down further it was a s****y mega man with a unique visual style.
