You've never been more right, Kbarr. Without even seeing the movie I can tell you Val Kilmer is the bad guy, because it looks like he's doing the "I train you but I am actually evil" bit that Al Pacino did in that movie with Colin Farell.
Also, it might be better if they dropped all of the other actors except for Christian Slater and changed the plot to compensate.
