sorry if it's a repost, I havn't been to general chat since July, so i'm not sure what's been posted....but if you havn't read this, here you go. I might be mean, but I laughed when I read it, not the fact that he shot him self, but what he said before he died.

Mary Wayne, who says her son, David, was addicted to Halo: Combat Evolved, wants to sue the makers.
The Halo series is played by more than 5.5 million people worldwide.
The 21-year-old man was addicted to the original Halo, says his mother, Mary Wayne of Waco. He sacrificed everything so he could play for hours, ignoring his family, quitting his job and losing himself in a 3-D virtual world.
On Thanksgiving morning, David Wayne shot himself to death at his apartment in Dallas. His mother blames the game for her son's suicide. She is angry that Microsoft, which owns the Halo franchise, won't give her the answers she desires. She has hired an attorney who plans to sue the company in an effort to get warning labels put on the games.
"It's like any other addiction," Mary Wayne said last week. "Either you die, go insane or you quit. My son died."
Three years later, the sequel of the game was released on November 9, 2004. Mary says that, these where the days when David started to lose it. He had hype Halo 2 to no end, until the game was released. After purchasing the game David seemed unsatisfied and started screaming, "This isn't the final game! It's not finished!" Unfortunatly for Mary, these where the final words she heard from David.
Mary knew her son had problems beyond gaming, and she tried to get him help by contacting a mental health program and trying to get him to live in a group home. A psychologist diagnosed him with depression and schizoid personality disorder, symptoms of which include a lack of desire for social relationships, little or no **** drive and a limited range of emotions in social settings.

I've read this story before, and a while back.
There was this whole discussion about how retarded it was if the kid had psychological problems, that the mom still blamed the game.

Someone needs to clue the mother in on something, her son was diagnosed with a schizoid disorder. A warning label isn't going to fix that. He was an adult who should have been able to be responsible for his actions. If I were to buy a game and not like it, thats my problem, my life choice and my mistake but I'd try and return the game not kill myself.

Is there anything in Halo that would take hours and hours to accomplish and cause someone to quit their job and whatnot? Not like its a great game. It was good, wasnt great.

Only multiplayer for hours, he wasnt advancing in an EQ way he was just playing. Much much worse than an EQ addiction imo.

If you commit suicide, it's not because of a video game, it's because of you. The rest of us playing the game are completely fine. We play the games in a long spurt and then move on to the next game. This guy probably never moved on. I bet he had like 894455 posts on some Halo board somewhere.

I don't know what kind of b*******t author thinks he can trick people into thinking he wrote this, but this is "article" is nothing more than an exact copy of a story done TWO YEARS AGO. I knew I had seen that quote before.

I don't know where to begin this idiot parade today. I've been working really hard at getting the forums running well, so I've been sort of neglecting you guys. Now I've got a whole backlog of stupidity that I need to rant and rave about. So if you'll bear with me, we'll get started with the mother of the kid who killed himself last Thanksgiving after playing Evercrack. She seems to think that it was partially the fault of Sony and Everquest that her son shot himself in the head. Her mentally unbalanced, epileptic, impotent, schizophrenic and clinically depressed son. Yeah, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't have led a normal, healthy life without Everquest.

I feel sorry for this lady, I mean she did lose her son after all. But if I were her, I'd be thanking the makers of Everquest for at least spreading a little bit of joy into this poor b*****d's life before he decided to up and shoot his'self. It's not like if he'd shut off the computer and gone outside he could have gotten any. He was huge, depressed, and had no **** drive. She's lucky he didn't hang himself years previous to this. I know if my junk didn't work, I'd consider it. That, or homicide. Starting with Steven, the now-filthy-f*****g-rich Dell kid.

yes, aparently the article was a fake...had read it on the gamespot forums when the dude first posted it. I had never actually read the article about the kid who killed himself over EQ, so I couldn't tell it was a fake. Just went back to the thread not but 5 minutes ago and read all f*****g 10 pages of replies, and found 70% of them saying it was fake.
Sorry thought I actually had some juicy news for once, guess not...thought it was a little too weird for a kid to kill himself over a consol game, guess I was right.
Well then, move on, nothing to see here.
