Combat comes unexpectedly, even in war.
On Monday, while conducting operations in west Mosul, a voice came over the radio saying troops from our brother unit, the 3-21, were fighting with the enemy in east Mosul on the opposite side of the Tigris River. Moments later, SSG Will Shockley relayed word to us that an American soldier was dead. We began searching for the shooters near one of the bridges on our side of the Tigris, but they got away. Jose L. Ruiz was killed in action.
Although the situation in Mosul is better, our troops still fight here every day. This may not be the war some folks had in mind a few years ago. But once the shooting starts, a plan is just a guess in a party dress.
The only mission I've seen unfold close to what was planned was a B Company raid a few months back. It actually went so close to perfect that we could hardly believe it. The sole glitch occurred when a Stryker hit an IED, but since nobody was hurt, we just continued the mission. In retrospect, it's hard to imagine why I didn't write about it. But times are busy, and, apart from it going nearly perfectly according to plan, it just seemed like any other old raid. |

no it makes sense. Take sinrakin for example..b*****s about everything in his little pseudo intellectual manner, like the example of the quarter in the gutter.. He sure wants something to be done, but doesn't care enough to pick that quarter up and donate it to feed the children or whatever. They are just people grousing about shit they won't ever do anything about.

Holy crap, that quarter really messed with your head didn't it? I can't believe I have to spell this out for you, but the reason I mentioned the quarter was to illustrate the fact that while a quarter is not even worth the effort to bend over and pick up (what with opening the car door and all), it's still more than my per capita contribution to the American Aid to Africa, the generousity of which you were crowing about.
Actually, I'm not that big on charity, to be honest. I think it's fine, I don't begrudge any of my tax money that gets used for it, and I'll donate a bit extra when it seems warranted, but I don't really think it's possible to donate money and save the world. My feeling is nobody has the right to expect free help, but everyone has the right not to be f****d with. So you'll notice the causes I support tend to be not so much the "save the whales/trees/natural resources/hungry people etc", but more the "stop killing/harassing/stealing from people and let them get on with their lives in peace" ones.

Since he is about one of two or three people actually putting out real stories and not regurgitated press releases (like cnn, msnbc, the nightly news etc), his stories are noteworthy. I'd rather get info from someone who can see what is going on daily than from some guy in a suit camping out in the green zone day after day waiting for the army to give them information. *shrug* If you want to be uniformed stick to the Commie News Network.
