Not exactly. The pen is mighty when there's truth behind it, but if you get hurt by that then you were wrong in the first place.
The pen can also be mighty when there's a mob behind it, but in order to actually hurt you the mob has to resort to violence. Which they tend to do, but that still falls under sticks. Or possibly stones. |
Obviously both analogys were lost on you, one is an idealistic thing you tell to little children because they dont understand the complexitys of a situation and the other is true.
Saying in essence that you shouldnt act until the mob is already incensed against you is dumb, you act as soon as you see it starting, sticks and stones might do the breaking, but alot of the time the words are the thing that leads up to them. And even then its still retardedly idealistic.

Nope. You argue back. Or, if it's too stupid, you don't waste your time arguing, because whoever said it looks stupid already. What you don't do is attack them physically. That means you've lost.

That doesn't mean you lost. It means you're offended. When someone is that much of an a*****e and intentionally offends you in such a way, it's an approriate human reaction to kick their ass. There's no need for someone to put up with someone else's attacks just because they're verbal.

In your idealistic world were everyone is perfect maybe that could happen with more than 1 percent of the population. However here in the real world it doesnt and doing retarded shit to p**s people off gets you in trouble. Your even more dillusional than the christians if you think like that.

My point is that anybody who complains about the burden of faith in religion being to high should reexamine science. People often blindly accept theories on faith alone.

yup, pretty much all the great advances in science theory have been people going back and saying hey i think we missed something back here thats really important. Not everything is building off of what you have in science, a truely great scientist can go back and see what you might have missed.

now.. Remember who we're dealing with here, people who believe in gods word, and are attempting to follow what jesus says right?

so yes, i would say that throwing shit, and dumping soda on the guy *IS* in direct violation of their religion, and *IS* in direct violation of Jesus Christ's own words..

Phoenix, I always feel annoyed after reading a thread like this in which you debate people. Sadly, it's not because I disagree with you. You typically start from a position I very much agree with, then somehow you end up using logic that I completely disagree with to get there.
Take this post. What freaking difference does it make if Satan actually exists or not? This is the dumbest argument I've seen in a long time. To be fair, I'm not saying you are the one going off on these tangents but they seem most prevalent when you're debating for some reason.
Anyway, about this thread. I'm not going to debate about his right to make an ass of himself. I'll just concede the point right at the start. However, our rights and laws do not exist in a vacuum. Everything is governed by common sense. This is a large part of what we've lost in past few decades.
For example, if I'm standing at a street corner and I see a car speeding towards the intersection, I'm not going to step out into the street in front of it. It doesn't matter that there's a stop sign or red light there. If he obviously can't stop, I'm an idiot for stepping out in front of him. He may be at fault for breaking the law but I'm also at fault because a little common sense would have prevented the entire situation.
This is a perfect example of someone just being a complete and stupid ass. We can all say he's within his rights to dress up as Satan. However, common sense SHOULD tell you that you're likely to get your ass kicked for doing so. That also should not surprise anyone. All this crap about the value or validity of religion is just that, crap. He deliberately set out to infuriate people. He knew that what he was doing was going to anger people and he did it anyway. He deserves whatever he got. (In truth, he did get off lightly). You can't deliberately upset people then stand around, wide eyed, and proclaim your innocence. The world doesn't work that way. Likewise, the law and our rights are designed to protect the innocents. They are not shields to hide behind so you can deliberately antagonize people.

are you really that done, christians try to follow the example that christ set, no christian i know has ever claimed to be perfect and never do something christ wouldnt have done, if that was the case they wouldnt need the religion, why study something you already mastered. They are saying I follow the example and teachings christ set for us, they never say, hey i am a better person than you I make no mistakes and if jesus was alive today he could retire and leave everything in my hands cause i am so perfect.
So where is the hypocrisy? People who try to live a certain way but cant always live up to it are hypocrits? Atleast they try.

I think we can all agree that the guy who did it was an asshat, but..
the thing that makes this hilarious, is that the religion itself is based around pacifism, and literally, letting other people act like idiots, while you remain steadfast in your beliefs.. Under it all, it says that Every person who threw a gummybear, or dumped soda on the guy, was in Direct Opposition, of their very own beliefs..
Sure the guy's an asshat, sure he's dressing up like satan for a religious film... but the people who Call themselves christians, who say aloud that they believe in Jesus christ as god and saviour, are supposed to follow his teachings, and that means turn the other cheek and set a good example..
Now, here's a Passage for everyone to read
13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this--not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way.
~ he starts as saying don't do things that will make other people's faith waver
14 I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
~Interpreted, this says "Even though you may think it's perfectly right to do so, if someone sees you doing it, and thinks that it's a sin, You are making him doubt your faith"
15 For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died.
~Now, if because of what you're doing, the other person loses faith, or stumbles on their path to christianity. You are no longer walking in jesus' steps.. "You are a christian, you may not know it, but you are the poster child for every christian out there to a non-christian, if you compose yourself the wrong way and mess up, it makes the entire faith look bad, not just you.. Therefore, Don't make people think you're a false christian, and therefore become disillusioned by the christian faith, by acting in a non-christian way"
16 Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil;
~If you're doing something you think is right, and someone else thinks that it's not supposed to be done, you should stop doing it
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
~The kingdom of god is not in physical pleasures.. but rather being righteous, and being eternally happy.. (this was about the issue at hand when the letter was written, he talks about people eating food that was first offered to idols.. While some people thought that because the gods didn't exist, there was nothing wrong with the food/drink.. and others thought that because it was offered to heathen gods it was sacreligious to eat.. people were confused as to what to do, and started some huge conflicts..
18 For he who in this {way} serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men.
~ by not doing things that make other christians or other people stumble on the way to righteousness, you are doing the right thing
19 So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.
~nuff said
20 Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are clean, but they are evil for the man who eats and gives offense.
~Don't make people's faith waver for the sake of physical happiness.. you can do anything you please, but if you do it and someone thinks it's not the right thing to do according to gods word, you are sinning
21 It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or {to do anything} by which your brother stumbles.
~redundant statement, don't do stuff which makes people stumble in their faith
22 The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.
~I'm not sure how exactly to put this.. he basically says, if your faith is strong enough to do the things that other people don't approve of, more power to you, because you're happier doing the things that you want to do?
23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because {his eating is} not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.
~If you think what you're doing is wrong, you're sinning because you're not doing it because you think it's right, you're doing what you know inside is wrong.. and if you yourself say it's wrong, but are doing it anyway.. you're sinning

are you really that done, christians try to follow the example that christ set, no christian i know has ever claimed to be perfect and never do something christ wouldnt have done, if that was the case they wouldnt need the religion, why study something you already mastered.
Atleast they try. |
haha.. they weren't trying too hard when they threw shit at the guy dressed up in the devil costume were they?
I'm not saying that they're supposed to be jesuslike in every manner
but he makes it quite clear.. If someone slaps you, turn the other cheek..
and guess what.. that's one of the most well known phrases in the entire friggin bible, it's not like it's some obscure line that's shoved in one of the many chapters of numbers
now here's one for you
| Quote: | | They are saying I follow the example and teachings christ set for us, |
If they're trying to follow his example, they certainly Fell flat on their faces busted their noses, and sunk about 15 feet into the ground, didn't they..
You're thinking that christianity is some thing you can do, and then say oh, because it feels good i can bend my religion to my views.. Wrong a*****e.. religion is a set of rules, a code of honor if you'd like.. that people are supposed to follow
If they stray from the teachings, they should repent.. btw. the word repent doesn't mean say "oh i'm sorry" and then continue doing it..
read this really clearly
re·pent1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-pnt)
v. re·pent·ed, re·pent·ing, re·pents
v. intr.
To feel remorse, contrition, or self-reproach for what one has done or failed to do; be contrite.
To feel such regret for past conduct as to change one's mind regarding it
To make a change for the better as a result of remorse or contrition for one's sins.
That means that after you do it, you're supposed to ... omg get this... STOP DOING IT!
that means you're also supposed to obey this rule "IF I KNOW IT'S WRONG, I WON'T DO IT"
Now, Everyone slips up.. sure
but an entire theater full of people all throwing shit at someone in a devil costume, and someone even going so far as to dumping their soda on his head..
Hmm.. what say you.. let's make this a low amount.. 75% of the people Knew, that jesus said to turn the other cheek.. that means 75% of the people that threw the gummybears and stuff, just directly violated their religion's teachings.. and are effectively hippocrites
because god knows, they knew what they were doing was wrong, and they spat in god's face, and did it anyway..
they are effectively saying "I Will obey god's rules............ as long as it suits my life"
Which isn't something a *true* christian, would do..

Jesus would spit on most Christians, just like the Founding Fathers would spit on most Americans. Hardly anyone cares about principles; they just like to follow the mob.
Figuratively speaking. Jesus probably wouldn't actually spit; he'd just look sad or something.
