What is the primary source of money in Dungeons & Dragons online? What I mean is, do you get enough cash from killing mobs and the like, or do you still need to finish quests to get the money as a reward from an NPC? Also, is the monetary system the same in D&D?

If you mean one platinum equals ten gold pieces, one gold equals ten silver, and so on, than yes, it's exactly the same as in D&D.
And as far as loot is concerned, you don't really have to worry about that, because both mob drops and quest rewards are extremely rich, more than they should be.
