Ok, these Macros are beyond me. I just want a simple hot key like in EQ that casts a healing spell and then messages group " Healing to %t". Thats all I want. How do I do this?

Open the macro menu
create a new macro
select your icon
open your spell book
put your cursor in the macro definition area
left click the heal sepll you want to cast and it should appear in the macro as:
/cast (whatever heal rank x)
then type
/p Healing %t!

In retrospect it seems easy but unles you hear the basics it's really not that intuative.
It's a shame there is now entry in the manual on a lot of the good functionality in macroing. I had to dig around in the UI forum for a few weeks before I even knew most of the foundations of the system.
Fortunatly there are a lot of throwbacks to EQ.

WoW mimics EQ's command system in a lot of ways, probably to make converts like myself feel higher on the learning curve than if they had to totally relearn the controls.

I like EQ's better. There was a lot of useful commands and you were able to shorten them (ie: /who could be /w or simply just a /). Speaking of which, WoW's /who command would be better if when I did a /who on someone and there was more than one match that it would list the names in the chat window and not in a new window.
Relearning the contols? I had to do it. Now I hit 'c' instead of 'i' to see my gear, 'n' for talents instead of 'v' for AA's, 'm' instead of backspace for the map. And don't tell me to remap the keys.

remap your keys =P
You are going to have to do it anyway for quick casts in pvp, might as well make it how you like it.

The 6x4 (?) limit on macros sucks, though.

Mega Macro
http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=564
This mod modifies the MacroFrame to add a total of 84 macros in a scrollable frame, all of them with a 1000 character text limit.
I reccomend using flexbar for keybindings of the macros.
There are some files that go into the FrameXML folder, and Addons folder. Inside the zip is an Interface folder, and that how it should go into the wow folder.
