|

|
I'm trying to come up with a near-comprehensive list of roles performed by players and NPCs alike. People talk about "doing your job" in raids, in the sense that there is a specific task you are expected to perform. Sure, your class might have the best Fire Resist buffs in the game, but in the middle of a fight at the North Pole, your role (ie your job) might be to do damage, instead.
If you can think of roles missing from this page, please add them or email me

I like the exploration/travel role. Using a point system, I'd love to make a character that is almost useless in combat, but is the lord of travel buffs, invisibility and stealth.
For example:
The average rogue build might have 150 points in stealth and the rest in combat.
The average amount of points put into travel/speed spells might be 100.
My character would have maybe 350 in stealth and 250 in the travel/speed, but no combat skills at all roflrofl.
Sure, I wouldn't be invited to raids, but I'd rule the world.

Don't put in player housing. It's a stupid, useless idea.

I like this idea too. But it loses value when the areas become known, and public, and mapped. It might be useful if groups, or guilds, could have private, long lived, large instanced zones that were not all the same. Maybe a zone that would last a month or two, that you'd have to spend a week or so getting to know the layout of.

One of the strengths my game has is mobs setup camp and move around based on resources and politics. For example, it's likely a place like Norrath's East Commonlands might become infested with level 63 undead over time.

No, those are great abilities for a leader-type rogue. On raids in EQLive, I spent practically no time in combat and most of it scouting/pulling/tagging.

ok hardcores omg u r so baddaasss. point to ponder : ladies enjoy player-housing. so do uberpenis ppl w/ nuthin bettir to maxout this week. so do general useless masses of people in several online games.
the more shit there is to do, the more people will play the shit. unless ur goal is to create Land of the Leet playable by only 1% of the mmo population. have fun working fulltime to support the bills to ur littel perxonal e-universe.

But wouldn't it rock if I could semi-reliably lead the raid all the way to Emperor Ssrazhaezseaxazaa with minimal encounters instead of fighting through an army of snakes? And wouldn't it be awesome if the buff was controlled by me, so that jackasses wouldn't accidentally become unstealthed in bad places?
That would rock!

Now imagine that, but way better (and suckier at melee and other things)! I'd love a character like that
