Kithicor forest should not have been so memorable. It was a really minor event but considering the rarity of such GM interaction, it was memorable.

It seems if you stationed 1 GM to run live quests per server 24/7 - or as much as reasonably possible - even 4 hours a day during peak playtime - it would add a tremendous amount to an MMORPG.

I think at least once a week + some random ones would make each one alittle more special rather than having special costom events every day.

i would think that a live event that a single GM came up with and hosted would be utterly boring .. unless if they were PVP contests .. those are always fun

I like the foreboding ending..

"it over?"
"I guess"
"who knows"
"maybe there are more..."

Once a week is fine for GM events, but I think there should be more personal GM events every once in awhile. Imagine this scenario:

It's 1 a.m. and you're a level 26 mage soloing in South Karana. You're alone in the zone when suddenly a human female runs up and begs for your help. It seems that the gnolls have stolen her (baby/ring/purse)...

I would never forget a little event like that if it happened to me.

Well, Indicolite (WAR only) did come from Plane of Hate: but what Mugaaz is wearing is WAR/SHD usable - it was removed from the loot table after Plane of Hate was implemented.

Definitely, EverQuest tried to do this but usually these little quests ended up being broadcast through the entire zone. I remember escorting some wood elf GM from Oasis to Freeport after she shouted to the entire zone for help. It would have been a lot cooler if she had "noticed" that I was a level 40 in a zone with mostly 20s and specifically came to me to ask for help.

I'm sure glad it wasn't. Virtually all my great scores came from me jacking GM quests.

I didn't really find live events that important in EQ. Mostly because they always just gave out one prize, and that was to the person who had the best gear, and was the highest level. Basically I never had a chance. If they were giving out prizes, and awards to more than one person, it usually wasn't that great. A few of the holiday events were fun though, just to see what kind of shit they were going to pull off.

In 95% of cases they gave all the loot to the person who clicked the fastest.

So it's settled.

Dunn when your game goes live and you have a hundred million dollars, you hire 20% of realpoor and we all run peasants around begging noobs for help at odd hours in the morning.

Player: "Yes, so?"

If you have 100 servers that's 100 extra people you're paying. I don't know what size most game companies are but I would imagine adding on an extra 100 personnel would be a significant expense.
