World not a safer, nor better place with Bush at the wheel.
Time for change
The terror front is expanding, recruits are flocking to al-Qaeda and civil rights are evaporating. If this is victory in the war on terror, God help us if we suffer a defeat.

Quote:

Editorial opinion - We’re all losers in the war on terrorism

Monday, September 6, 2004
By Sean Kennedy
It’s an old and tired comparison but it serves to illustrate our predicament. Put a frog in boiling water and it will jump out – they’re not completely stupid, after all.
Put a frog in cold water and turn the heat up and it will ignore the rising temperature and boil to death. The same could be said of the Western world and terrorism.
The war on terror proudly announced by President George W. Bush seems to be going wrong for several reasons.
First, every time you look, the war on terror seems to have opened another front. Perhaps it should be called the “world war on terror”.
Russian authorities point to the presence of some fundamentalists from the Middle East in Chechnya as proof that their campaign in Beslan and elsewhere is part of the war on terror. It’s nothing of the sort.
Chechen atrocities in Russia follow Russian atrocities in Chechnya.
However, anti-Israeli and anti-Bush sentiment are helping to create support for Muslim extremists around the world, creating the very terrorism that Mr Bush claims to be eradicating.
As a result, Islamic terrorists are gravitating toward places like Chechnya. It’s becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. Mr Bush is losing the war on terror. We’re all losers in the war on terror.
Second, the so-called war is being used as an excuse to erode civil rights and persecute troublemakers around the world.
Third, it’s becoming routine to read of fatal clashes in places like Saudi Arabia, once an island of stability in the volatile Middle East.
Fourth, we’re becoming brutalised. Look at the torture and other human rights violations by US guards in Iraq. What was the point of the Nuremberg trials?
Fifth, it all seems pointless. The war on terror is making things worse.
We’re like the frog in the cold water. We should jump out before we’re boiled alive. We should take a long hard look at what’s been achieved since the war on terror was announced.
Iraq is turning into a cross between Lebanon and Vietnam. Saudi Arabia is looking shaky. Russia is in a state of war with a fractious Chechnya, and civilians are paying the price.
The terror front is expanding, recruits are flocking to al-Qaeda and civil rights are evaporating. If this is victory in the war on terror, God help us if we suffer a defeat.

No. If it were accurate than you would have posted facts. Not some random nutjob's opinion.

You're Canadian. Why do you refer to it as "the presidency"? Do you really lack national pride so much that you neglect your own president and focus on ours?

He was the president of the United States when this happend! Cliton wasnt! Perhaps Bush should have been paying attention to home-land security? That is one of the jobs a president has, not former presidents. Am I right?

Don't give me this "oh poor bush , he had NO CLUE what was happening!"

But I do have a question for you. How has bush made America safer against terrorists?

Lets see, the war in Iraq, that has killed a thousand American troops so far

The Sudan offered Osama to Clinton three different times, each time he said No.

Now kindly go back to France with the rest of the p*****s.

That editorial is, for lack of a better term, a "crock of shit".

But, much like the author of that collumn, this is only my opinion.

The artical seems to make sense to me. The war on terror is being lost, every day there is a terrorist attack, much more than before the war on terror started.

I think there has to be some re-thinking about how exactly to deal with terrorism, because honestly, tanks and guns are not working at this point of the game. And terrorism is beyond anything an army can subdue, no matter the military spending.

No attacks in the US, the country most reviled by terrorists. Why? Perhaps because, unlike Russia, we're fighting them.

There wasn't much terror activity in Iraq until the U.S showed up. Wouldnt that mean the U.S military is causing more problems then solving them?

Czech it out!

Thinking like this is the reason why the war on terror isnt working. Look at the on-going Isreal-Palistine conflict, Kill, Revenge, Kill, Revenge. It's a constant cycle, that is solving: nothing.

Im sorry they didnt teach you how to think in the marines! lol

How about an average of 100,000 killings per year for the past decade. That's literally about 150 times worse than today.
