I start classes next Wednesday (at Gnomon), and wanted to nab the most recent version of Maya before I started a class in it. I just checked, and Suprnova.org won't come up for me. Is it just down temporarily, or has it been taken down for a while/for good? Or does anyone else know of a site that I can get this program from?
Thanks,
~Nug

Ah dude the program is free (as long as your not planning on doing commerical products with it). Go to www.alias.com or if you have a copy of UT2004 its on the 6th "Play" cd. Look for the "Maya 6 Personal Learning Addition". There is no difference between this and the commerical version other then having a paper license to sell whatever you make and a $2000 price tag.

Last I checked (a few versiona ago) the PLE printed a watermark across your printouts, and had Learning edition in the background on your screen while working... I Need to make a reel and a portfolio so I can get a job doing this type of work. Do you know if the version you are talking about has these things?

Well all I see so far is a small "This is not for commerical use" towards the bottom of the program. But it might have that stuff your talking about since it is free. Here's a pic of the program.
Yah sorry it is Maya 5 on the UT2k4 and 3 CD! But it can be updated with a patch tho

Yeah, thx for the tip. It was just down for me part of yesterday, but I'm getting it from Suprnova.org as we speak... Now the tough part'll be learning it well. I have done about 6 years of AutoCAD work professionally, and a couple more years doing Photoshop and Illustrator work, as well as a year of modelling in Rhino, so hopefully I'll have a leg up on modelling and texturing.
Thx,
~Nug
