I'm looking at 3 models right now; I just need something to backup my fileserver.

NEC Black Internal 16X DVD+/-R Drive Support Dual Layer no software, Model ND-3540A, OEM
Write Speed: 16X DVD+R, 8X DVD+RW, 8X DVD+R DL, 16X DVD-R, 6X DVD-RW, 4X DVD-R DL, 48X CD-R, 32X CD-RW

Lite-On 16X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive, Model SOHW-1673S Beige, OEM
Write Speed: 16X DVD+R, 8X DVD+RW, 16X DVD-R, 6X DVD-RW, 4X DVD DL, 48X CD-R, 24X CD-RW

Lite-On Beige 16X DVD+/-R DVD Burner support Dual Layer, Model SOHW-1693S Beige, OEM Bulk
Write Speed: 16X DVD+R, 8X DVD+RW, 16X DVD-R, 6X DVD-RW, 4X DVD+D9, 4X DVD-D9, 48X CD-R, 24X CD-RW

My file server is currently running RedHat 7.3, but I may replace the OS with something newer, probably FC4 (hence the need for a backup). Does anyone have any experience with any of these burners under Linux? Or any other recommendations?

i have a NEC .. it works great .. was mega cheap

on a few DVDs it won't burn max speed though ..

.. but for the price I payed I really don't care ... I always end up burning everything slow anyway just in case of a random burning error from going too fast

either way make sure it supports +/- R not just one or the other.

I never use RW, never had a use for it really.
