Nah, just charge all smokers 100% of their own health-care costs, and make them refund any premiums their employers pay on their behalf.

As an ex smoker of 10 years, I think banning smoking around children in any confined space is a good law.
Forcing harmful side effects on children, from your bad habbit that is age restricted to begin with, is not a good thing.
No smoker who is also a parent will argue this one bit.

Smoking around your children is a choice. You cant write down in a law how you should raise them.
Its a parents choice. If they think its ok, good. Its their choice. Noone will care because the kids are probally gonna grow up being the same retards their parents are. So its better to have the kids die young, making them inable to reproduce their stupidity.

/agree on smoking around children, period. It's bad news.
While they are at it, maybe they could actually ENFORCE the law that says that children should be in child-restraint seats up til a certain age? I cringe when I see a mother driving with a kid on her lap, or three toddlers standing up in the back seat waving at me through the rear window..I am always SO tempted to say something but I haven't yet

Again, impossible to enforce. In a lot of states the cops can and do pull you over for not wearing a seat belt, but 99% of the time you won't get caught, and cops have more important things to do than looking in every car on the freeway to see if there is an un-belted child in it. You can't legislate good parenting.

My father was a PoS and smoked heavily in the house and car. Would not let me open a window in the car or house because he was to cheap to pay a little extra in the heat or electric bill for the ac.
I got used to breathing the smoke but never got used to it burning my eyes. My eyes are sensitive to bright light and smoke. I can breath like normal in a room full of tear gas but the pain it causes my eyes is enough to put me on the ground.

I ski about every weekend - what p****s me off is having a smoke on the chair lift (40' +/- off the ground) and some assfuck behind me starts coughing and asks me to put it out.
I told him to shut the f**k up. I don't smoke on planes, I don't smoke in restraunts, I don't blow smoke at your non smoking ass, dont f**k with me with I'm on a 2500' high mountian having a cig or I'll shove my foot in your ass sideways...

I find N-American to be a lot more consious (sp) about the harms of cigarette smoke then Europe is. When I went back for a couple months last year, I was sitting in a "brasserie", having a coffee and crepes with my mom. Both her and I lit a cigarette, and I suddenly noticed there were atleast 10 children in that place, included some babies. This has always been a "normal" thing for me, but suddenly it didn't feel justified anymore. I put my cigarette out, and waited until we were done. I haven't quit yet, still smoke about 4 - 5 cigarettes a day, but I agree it's a nasty, unhealthy habbit. For the last few days I been trying to take an apple every time I feel like one, I'm out right now, and trying to not get another pack. If "will power" doesn't help me this time, I want to try medication.

child abuse is a choice too ... if you can put up a good argument as to why filling your childs lungs with toxins which can kill them is somehow not as bad as hitting them id like to hear why. remember this is not a necessary evil like car exhaust . You can choose not to smoke and even more you can choose not to do it around your kids .
