Many teens aren't aware of the dangers of heavy metal music: "Does listening to such music really contribute to destructive behavior? It evidently did so in at least one case—that of a 14-year-old youth in the United States who stabbed his mother to death and then killed himself. The walls of his room were covered with posters of heavy-metal rock musicians. His father pleaded afterward: "Tell parents to watch what music their children listen to." Reminds me of the entire "Dangers of D&D" b******t when I was a youngster. Thank God my parents believed as I do, that only if you are already screwed in the head will something like that cause you to go over the deep end... I'd better start locking my door though - My oldest listens to metal and plays D&D. =P

my parents thought eq was bad when that news story came out about it. even my grandmother was like you play that game dont you. They started to get all concerned for me then I was like yeah, here take a look at my bank stub and tell me to stop playing the game now. They didnt bother me about it ever again.

I don't really know what to think about all those stories that kids commit crimes, or murders or suicides because of the music they listen to.

I don't think a normal kid would murder their mother just because the music says they should or talks about it. There must be deeper issues with them. I do think in some cases the music enhances some kind of weird mood someone is in already... but to say that's the fault of the artist/music is another extreme.

Then again I also don't understand why *normal* kids would listen to some of the music they do... the really dark shit with downright morbid lyrics.

I'm what would be considered relatively normal, for a geek that is, and I listen to that dark, morbid lyricised music, and I'm not killing anyone. Then again, I listen for the technical guitarwork prevalent in artists such as cannibal corpse, not because I want to "rage against the machine" so to speak.
