I duno, it kept my attention the whole time but it deffiantly felt like a recruitment ploy. Brings back memoires from SWAT when the ex swat shoots the one swat guy then says "You should thank me, by tomarrow you will have 30 more recruits."

I give it a 3 outs 5

I'd see it, but I don't know if I can sit through a movie with John Travolta. I just don't like him as an actor.

I really dislike movies where they try and glorify everyday jobs and make them all seem quirky, unique, and entertaining. Also, firefighteres get enough good press, they don't need a movie to glorify their job. How about a movie that makes another profession seem interesting, like FedEx delivery guy, or Frito salesman, or Bank Teller?

So, I saw I <3 Huckabees instead, which I liked. My girlfriend really like it, too. John Travolta has a huge head, so I don't like movies with him.

Also, Travolta always dances.

And I agree with the Firefighter thing. Wasn't Backdraft enough? Wasn't Backdraft enough??

See, I liked Backdraft. Sure, it was fill of the usual "we're so unique and zany" parts with the newbie hazing, but it showed the actual flaws in the characters.

Worst example is Twister. We're all nerdy, and zany and quirky, and we have wierd taste in music, but we're so cool because we're different.

It's like those wierd goth kids in drama class. My grandfather and his friends didn't die in World War II so that you could prance around like a vampire.

fire is always good, but see that immediately makes fire fighters the bad guys, putting out the glorious fire.

The herd loves to watch TV/movies about jobs they don't have the balls to do.

Firemen, Cops, the military, their are only a small handful of jobs where death is part of the job description. Adrenalin junkies tend to take these jobs and everyone else would rather watch them on the screen and live vicariously. People love to watch cops chase perps with guns on TV, count all the cop shows in the last 20 years. But not many people have the balls to actually run into that dark, abandon building knowing they might die chasing said scumbag. Same with going into a fire. People who do that shit for a living thinks its fun:) The herd likes to watch it from a safe distance.

That's not really what I meant. What annoys me is when they try and make the people that DO those jobs all quirky and interesting. Like Twister. They all have super customized vans with radical stickers on them and they listen to Broadway Music. Or they all do zany and wacky things like have **** on the firetruck or put Geese in the newbies lockers. That's what I dislike.

how do you know that it doesnt happen? in my 3 short years in the military we have done some fun shit. you ever seen somebody walk up to their car and find it on cinder blocks? or, put on their hat with it being full of Drysol? or putting surgi-lube on their keyboard? maybe putting an anal probe in the lining of their chair so when they sit down they get a nice surprise. if i could find a goose id put it into somebodies locker most definetly.

Remember the rival twister team from "Twister"? They had like black vans and were led by the devious Cary Elwes.

Not even remotely. If I want to watch something about firemen, Cops, or the military, I'll watch a documentary, not some heart-tugging, action filled Bruckheimeresque blockbuster.

Oh yes, exactly.

You think a documentary is any closer to the real thing than a TV drama? Its TV, eye candy, little blips of color on a screen.

99% of the time I spent sitting in a car driving around or reading the paper or doing paperwork in an office or eating. Its the other 1% that was the fun part. As for my exploits, some were a LOT more dramatic than anything I typed here. And some of the shit my buds stepped in make my tour look like 20 yrs in kindergarten.
