So at what response time does an LCD monitor become a viable gaming resource? I ask because I want one in the near future but have never really paid any attention to them. I'm lazy, and therefore I want someone on RP to do my work for me too.

Now a days, you're really not going to find a current LCD with slow enough responce time that it will show "ghosting" on games.
Any decent quality one refreshes really fast and has no lag time whatsoever.

<3 my Samsung SyncMaster 172N
also, to fix the whole problem of sometimes seeing a line on the screen in games .. make sure v-sync is on for your 3d card ..
if v-sync is on then your 3d card will wait for the monitor to render the next frame ...
what happens when you see that line on the screen is a new frame is being drawn while the previous frame wasn't done being drawn .. so if you v-sync it wont do that ..

Hyundai L90D+ or whatever it is.
Tom's hardware rated it high (as one of the top 3 gaming LCDs) and I absolutely love it.
It's also really inexpensive and 19" to boot.
http://www.hyundaiq.com/pro_l90d+.asp is the link, if you wanna check it out, but my machine flies with it.
Spend like $300 US on it at tiger direct.

yea most LCD;s now are fast enough for gaming, and ghosting isnt too much of an issue. However, some things to keep in mind are most manufacturers have a "5 dead pixel" rule, meaning 5 dead pixels or less and they wont RMA it. IMHO that sucks. You may not think 3 or 4 dead pixels are bad, but they are distracting. I love my LCD (21" Dell) but I still use a flat screen CRT for gaming. If you dont think you cant tell difference, line em up side by side. You will see a difference. Again, most are very good, and if you dont use CRT alot it will be fine. Side by side tho, CRT is still picture winner.

dead pixels suck but are usually covered under the extra reseller warranties that best buy/micro center/etc offer.

Thats a point I hadnt thought of..I've never bought the extra insurance coverage but I think it'd be good for an LCD

I have both 21'"crt and a 20.1 Benq LCD the LCD is far superior when it comes to clarity mostly due i'm sure to using the native res and DVI cable support vs analog
The Ghosting is very minimal it that its not worth mentioning really..
infact it looks like very slight motion blur more then ghosting when you look for it .
The only problem i have is the contrast ratio is different then CRT and not as good..But otherwise the desk space isn't worth it anymore.
