|
|
|
|
I'm in the market for a decent quality 15-18 flat panel that can double as a computer monitor and a TV as I don't have quite enough room in my bedroom for another TV. Anyone suggest a few or a website that has comparisons of various models? Thanks in advance =)

get a 21+ inch regular monitor and a TV card instead, and pay half as much?
I seriously don't get the huge appeal of the flat screens. They're flat, so what? What are you going to put in that area instead? I can see how it would be more functional in some situations, but i think most people just like to use them as an excuse to blow cash. But hey, if you got it, blow it!

If what you're mainly interested in is response time, for gaming and video, Toms's kind of implies there's two main choices: the Samsung 171N and the NEC LCD1760V. http://www4.tomshardware.com/display/20030221/index.html
On the other hand, I use a cheapish Dell 17" flat panel at work and it seems quite acceptable. Not like I've made a scientific study of it or anything.

Regular TV's can't display higher resolution than 640x480...they make horrible computer monitors
I just got the Samsung 191T...which is a 19", but they make a 17". Great monitor so far.

The DellTM UltraSharpTM 2000FP utilizes a 20.1" (51 cm) Active Matrix TFT LCD that displays sharp and brilliant images of text and graphics with a maximum resolution up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. This display is optimal for Microsoft® Windows®, spreadsheets, multimedia, and any other application that demands high resolution, quality images in a small form factor. The DellTM UltraSharp 2000FP was designed for a wide variety of users ranging from the home, small office, or corporate environment. This monitor has a wider viewing angle, which allows users to view the screen from various positions without compromising image quality. Using a DVI graphics card with a DVI flat panel provides a seamless digital connection - the signal doesn't have to be converted from digital to analog then back to digital again. The higher contrast ratio generates sharper, crisper lines and images. Fast response times provide superior clarity for moving images with "no ghosting". Premium brightness allows for brilliant images with blacker blacks and richer colors. This product has been tested and validated on DellTM systems to ensure it will work with your computer and is compatible with DellTM systems. | Quote: | WOW! DellSB - UltraSharp 20.1" 2000FP LCD Monitor for $743 Shipped Free!! (Posted by: Leon)
This is pretty much the best price on this fantastic screen I have ever seen. They dropped the price of their truly AWESOME 20.1" LCD from $1699 to $1599 to $1399, $999 and now to $869. Plus, now they have 10% off, reducing that price to $782.10. They have free shipping. And now they have a 5% discount too! I`ve had this LCD for over a year now, and absolutely love it. I get so much more work done at 1600x1200 resolution, and can stare into this beautiful monitor for hours on end without eye strain thanks to the LCD technology. It has VGA inputs as well as DVI (definitely something to look for) plus s-video and composite inputs, so you can plug a VCR in and use it as a TV as well. It`s very bright at 240 nits, has 350:1 contrast, and a fast 25ms TOTAL average response time for quality gaming.
Start here at Dell Small Business. DELLSB
For some reason, you can`t search for it anymore. So from the link:
Click on Software and Peripherals at the top
Click on Monitors on the right
Click on Flat Panel LCD Monitors on the right
Click on 20" & Larger on the right
It should be the first one listed
The 10% off discount should be instant
Use coupon code: 8D2755970FD4 to get 5% off. Expires 03/12/2003. |
They jacked the price back up earlier this morning on the 20 and 18 inch ....sigh =/

That thin only goes to 1280x1024 (17inch size) wtf would you buy a 30 inch that can only put out the info of a 17 inch???
If your looking for an uber flat screen mostly for computer purposes but to watch "some" TV on get a Sony P232W 23inch (VIEWABLE 23 inch btw boys) flatscreen. The uberest monitor atm, since it can do 1920x1600 (highest rez for any flatscreen atm).
And buy a TV card to watch TV.
IF you really wanta TV that can double as a monitor get a Samsung Tantus 17inch. Great TV, can connect 4 AV to it and 1 computer.
CAn even do Picture in Picture with TV/computer and vica versa.
Very good for the price
I have bothon my desk atm, some good "simple" flatscreens are 17inch ADI microscans (2 on my desk atm, GREAT quality for gaming to high refresh) or LG flatscreens, only have one of those 15 inch for my server but i watch my divx's on that and they look great
