That was neat.
Do they explain the second half of that opening seuqence ingame? or are the ones that didn't play the Gameboy one going to be going "wth"?

Supposedly that's how you'll be for at least the first half of the game if you haven't played Chain of Memories.

Yes, if you didn't play Chain of Memories you are going to be in the dark for quite a while. And actually I would recommend playing through the game on 'Proud' mode. It will be a lot easier to obtain a certain scene in the game if you do so. It took me about 30 hours to play through it on 'Normal' mode obtaining 85% completion.
I will play through it again at some point for sure. It will take one hell of a masterpiece to dethrone this game from the #1 slot on my top 10 list.

Also, try to stay away from any kind of spoiler. Even a minor one. The gameplay is unmatched, but the story is what makes the game so amazing.
