Hearing it on Fox news now, guess Kerry called Bush and told him he wins. Guess I lose my bet on him not officially conceding for atleast 6 weeks.

Well, I decided to stop posting after things were getting nuts a few weeks back. Now it is over. There will be weeks spent on analyzing things and many "what if's" thrown back and forth. It was a close election in many states on both sides of the ticket. I was very surprised by the percentage results of California, New Jersey, Iowa, and Wisconsin. I would of expected a larger difference for one party versus the other in these states. There was record turn-out in many parts of the country (60% of eligible voters which has not been seen since 1968). There is no issue about the popular vote versus the electoral (not since 1988 has a president had more than 50% of the popular vote). Although I did not like Kerry's constantly changing stance on issues while he was stumping, his last act as a presidential candidate was commendable. Instead plunging the country into chaos via legal wrangling, he conceded the election this morning. The entire election process concluded with no mass violence. Maybe the world can chew on that for awhile?
The Republicans gained seats in the Senate. The House is still up in the air, but it looks like Republicans gained seats there as well. Tom Daschle, the Senate Democratic Leader from South Dakota, was voted out. Louisianna elected its first Republican senator in its history. The first Cuban American Senator in the country was elected in Florida. Barack Obama was elected Senator in Illinois (Thank God, Keyes is a nutcase and Obama is level headed).
From what I have been reading, the economy and the war were not the huge driving factors that most people thought would drive people out to vote. It was morals and values: The Great Relearning: Let it Begin. The 11 Marriage State Constitution Initiatives on ballot defining marriage as one man and one woman all passed. Does this mean the problems with the tax code, visitation rules, or wills should not be addressed? No. In my opinion, these are problems, not only affecting gay couples, that should be addressed. Prop 71 involving stem cells was passed in California and the legalization of marijuana did not pass in Alaska.
The other issue that came up time and time again during this election was the media. We saw false stories published by CBS and the New York Times. We saw an ABC memo promoting blatant media bias. The media stated after 2000 not to conduct exit polling due to calling states early. The media was careful in calling states (a bit too careful with a few states) but still brought out the exit polling. I am not sure what will happen, but in the coming months, I suspect that there will be a lot of activity happening within the MSM. Along with the MSM, we saw the emergence of 527 groups including the Swift Vets and MoveOn. So much for the past efforts of campaign reform.
Now for those people that hate Bush with a passion, I'll leave you this Victory Salute and a reminder of what to do when you are filled with blind rage. Those damn evil religious people eh? Give me a break. There is a lot of stuff going on in the world that needs to be addressed including a corrupted UN, the Sudan government surrounding refugee camps, and the raging fanatics blowing up hotels, schools, etc. Save your anger for that.
