An interesting article that explains a lot of things I've been discussing with teachers and friends alike better than I can:

As an added personal note, I think Kerry has certainly done a good job showing where Bush has failed, and there is no doubt that many consider him an appealing alternative. My personal prediction is we'll see a lot of Republican senators and the like heading into the booth, voting Kerry, and walking out saying "Yup, I voted Bush." Also, this article doesn't mention anything about the younger, unpolled population. Check with colleges and you'll find the vast majority eager to vote, and to vote for Kerry. Lastly, all educated teachers, police, and firemen will certainly go Kerry, along with probably all unions.
Kerry may very well win by a landslide... of course as the article states it could go either way, but I just find a lot of you thinking it's a close race, and it may very well not be. Read up though, it's good stuff.

Teachers don't hate Bush; most (all but 1) of the teachers I know are voting Bush again this year. Most teachers in the country tend to be liberals though but thank God I live in a 70%+ Republican state(85%+ county I believe).

With 2 parents, 2 siblings, 1 cousin and 4 aunts/uncles being teachers, I can vouch for this.
All of them are voting for Kerry because they feel f****d by Bush and the "No Child Left Behind" act, except for my sister. She's only voting for Bush because she thinks she's some kind of f*****g born again Christian (whose holy water is Natural Light...) and she's afraid that if Kerry wins that gays will be free to get married.

All those No Child Left Behind and state tests are a bunch of b******t. They don't help the kids one single bit, they are just used to rank schools. The higher the school's ranking the more money they get, which isn't much ANYWAY. Regardless, the good schools get more money to become even better, and the schools that actually NEED the improvement get shafted because the good schools sucked up most of the money with their high test grades.
I'd have to say though, the major problem with education in this country, especially in the south, is the quality of teachers. The more south you go, the shittier the schools get because the wages are low and noone wants to be a teacher when you are paid shit.

As was my astrology prof, who went to teaching at Kent State after retiring from 20+ years in the USMC.
When we had class Sept 12th, 2001, he showed up in camos. Was a riot.
My current calculus prof is brilliant as well, he's a retired air force pilot.
Actually it's funny, my most brilliant teachers all have one thing in common, careers in the military before they turned to teaching.
