I know the Swiss government is actually debating what they could offer beyond the usualy stuff. I think our REGA jets might be useful right now. Even though they can only transport 4 patients (+ medical personel), it'd still be useful for critically injured/sick people.
Anyway, this isn't about America not being able to handle it on its own - but the US helps everyone else with natural crisis, so other countries WANT to help. Bush just needs to accept it...
Sri Lanka offered $25,000 - yes, 25 thousand. Will it make a difference? nope. But it's a great gesture from a country that has nothing.
ohh: Germany offered to transport some refined gasoline to the US - they store some in refined state. The EU is offering 1.2m barrels per day, which isn't insignificant. |
You are swiss? |
Yeah. |
Rice already said we will accept any and all foreign aid.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168203,00.html |
Wow, that's a flip-flop. The great US of A will accept help from other nations? I can only imagine the arguments that went on inside the government over this one.
When you yourself use foreign aid as a bargaining chip and wedge into into the domestic affairs of other nations, I expect it was a tough call to let this happen in the U.S. Sounds like Bush is still against it though, which is why Rice made the announcement.
I view this as a real positive step, and the right one to take, given the situation. |
You're a moron, lol. |
If you don't agree with what I say, that's cool. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, and I'm willing to listen to it. Statements like the above, however, just serve to demonstrate that more priority and emphasis should be placed on proper education in your country, or that you personally should at least take advantage of what educational opportunities are available to you. |
Some of the shit you say...such as the post I quoted, and responded to are completely retarded shit that doesn't make alot of sense. If you were posting that to be funny, or to get +1, or any reason other than present it as a valid fact, I would have let it slid, but it was just to damn stupid. Much like your post of..bblablahblahb America will fall!...you heard it here first!...That is just retarded, and I think you were trying to prove a point? If you were trying to be comedic at either of those points I forgive you. Otherwords, I still believe you are a moron, Based on the posts themselves, not your opinions. |
Let me see if I get this. You claim the posts I make are retarded, and judge me moronic, summarily, without supporting argument, opposing view or counterpoint, therefore I am?
Well golly. I guess you put me in my place.
You did get one thing right. I don't take any of this stuff too seriously. Seems there are a lot of pickup driving rednecks on this board that do, though.

The same germany where some official yesterday blamed Katrina on the USA creating global warming? |
I'm actually surprised no evangelists have blamed Katrina on God punishing New Orleans for letting women flash their breasts during Mardi Gras yet |
OMG right again! How do I do it?
http://www.repentamerica.com/pr_hurricanekatrina.html
| Quote: | HURRICANE KATRINA DESTROYS NEW ORLEANS
DAYS BEFORE "SOUTHERN DECADENCE" 8/31/05
PHILADELPHIA - Just days before "Southern Decadence", an annual homosexual celebration attracting tens of thousands of people to the French Quarters section of New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina destroys the city.
"Southern Decadence" has a history of filling the French Quarters section of the city with drunken homosexuals engaging in **** acts in the public streets and bars. Last year, a local pastor sent video footage of **** acts being performed in front of police to the mayor, city council, and the media. City officials simply ignored the footage and continued to welcome and praise the weeklong celebration as being an "exciting event". However, Hurricane Katrina has put an end to the annual celebration of sin.
On the official "Southern Decadence" website (www.SouthernDecadence.com), it states that the annual event brought in "125,000 revelers" to New Orleans last year, increasing by thousands each year, and up from "over 50,000 revelers" in 1997. This year’s 34th annual "Southern Decadence" was set for Wednesday, August 31, 2005 through Monday, September 5, 2005, but due to massive flooding and the damage left by the hurricane, Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco has ordered everyone to evacuate the city.
The past three mayors of New Orleans, including Sidney Barthelomew, Marc H. Morial, and C. Ray Nagin, issued official proclamations welcoming visitors to "Southern Decadence". Additionally, New Orleans City Council made other proclamations recognizing the annual homosexual celebration.
"Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city," stated Repent America director Michael Marcavage. "From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. From the devastation may a city full of righteousness emerge," he continued.
New Orleans is also known for its Mardi Gras parties where thousands of drunken men revel in the streets to exchange plastic jewelry for drunken women to expose their breasts. This annual event sparked the creation of the "Girls Gone Wild" video series.
"We must help and pray for those ravaged by this disaster, but let us not forget that the citizens of New Orleans tolerated and welcomed the wickedness in their city for so long," Marcavage said. "May this act of God cause us all to think about what we tolerate in our city limits, and bring us trembling before the throne of Almighty God," Marcavage concluded.
"[God] sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matthew 5:45) |

So God allowed them to have this convention for 34 years, but decides this time that it's too much?

Cuba is offering 1,100 doctors/nurses to send over, plus 26.4 tons of medisin. Think Bush will take it? I doubt it
And you can't b***h about anyone not trying to help, when you refuse to take it. Obviously, you don't have enough "resources" to do this on your own. And if you do, why is it still such a huge mess?

"Things that make you want to scream" for $500, Alex...
Okay, first this article:
| Quote: | A specialized urban search and rescue team from Vancouver will be joining the rescue efforts in Louisiana in the wake of hurricane Katrina.
B.C. Solicitor General John Les said the province decided to send Vancouver Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) after officials in Louisiana asked for help.
"We're the first non-U.S.-based team to be requested," said Les. "They're going to be helping as many people as they can."
CTV Vancouver has learned that the team will board a plane Wednesday night heading to Lafayette, Louisiana, where local authorities will direct them to devastated areas. |
Sounds great! Except for one problem -- this team wasn't allowed to fly into the US, blocked by Homeland Security from entering. A Canadian reader sends this report:
| Quote: | On tonight's news, CTV (Canadian TV) said that support was offered from Canada. Planes are ready to load with food and medical supplies and a system called "DART" which can provide fresh water and medical supplies is standing by. Department of Homeland Security as well as other U.S. agencies were contacted by the Canadian government requesting permission to provide help. Despite this contact, Canada has not been allowed to fly supplies and personnel to the areas hit by Katrina. So, everything here is grounded. Prime Minister Paul Martin is reportedly trying to speak to President Bush tonight or tomorrow to ask him why the U.S. federal government will not allow aid from Canada into Louisiana and Mississippi. That said, the Canadian Red Cross is reportedly allowed into the area.
Canadian agencies are saying that foreign aid is probably not being permitted into Louisiana and Mississippi because of "mass confusion" at the U.S. federal level in the wake of the storm. |
Once the hard-hit region is back on its feet, there better be a full accounting of the preparation and response to this catastrophe. |

Well, it would have been pretty bad press when looters killed 500 Canadian relief workers.
We all know Canadians are scared of black people, they wouldn't even fight back :/

Actually, we don't have many black people, so I don't know if Canadians are scared of them. Something about the cold, I think.

It's sad that it took almost a week for the US government to swallow their pride, get their priorities straight, and ask for help from the rest of the world.

Which isn't nearly as jaw-dropping as it would be hearing kbarr admit that there was some disaster, natural or otherwise, that he hadn't already thought of and prepared for.

I'm prepared to live in my own house and be comfortable for weeks, months even. I am also ready to drive away for extended periods? forever? and have my very important items with me. I can be ready to drive away with a few bags and a small waterproof paperwork safe very quickly.
To me these are good things. Things easily set up before they might be needed.
Smart things.
Do you understand?
