If they cared they could send money. Let's see France get all the famous French entertainer(s) to put on a charity concert for Americans hard-hit by the hurricane. Like all the help they gave after 9/11.

f**k all other countries.

Chavez had earlier offered to send food and fuel to the United States after Hurricane Katrina pummeled the US south, ravaging US crude production.

The leftist leader, a frequent critic of the United States and a target himself of US disapproval, said Venezuela could send aid workers with drinking water, food and fuel to US communities hit by the hurricane.

"We place at the disposition of the people of the United States in the event of shortages -- we have drinking water, food, we can provide fuel," Chavez told reporters.

Chavez said fuel could be sent to the United States via a Citgo refinery that has not been affected by the hurricane. Citgo is owned by Venezuela's state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

We don't. We'll still probably keep up the same level of foreign aid, donations, while even taking care of our own situation. Plus here, as opposed to third world countries, most people have homeowners insurance, and insurance companies are required to keep the funds to pay a certain % of all of their claims in 'reserve' so they can actually meet their obligations. Whena cyclone or tsunami flattens Bangladesh, the people who survive get food/water and then go back to rebuilding their bamboo and mud huts on the same spot.

my point is that a good part of this planet dislikes the United States. a good part of this planet is "take only" when it comes to the United States.

"what will we get or how much" then again, i suppose that most of the planet doesn't have anything in excess to offer.

If we really needed the assistance, I doubt even a crazy ass conservative like Bush would pull that out of his ass to stop food or water or medical supplies from being given to us.

I was thinking more of the reverse part of it.

If we didnt give so much away, we'd never blink an eye when it came to at home things.

True. But what it comes down to, is the things that we need to have available to help the people who survived, is all available in this country in excess: Food, water, medicine, and funds eventually to rebuild. I don't know how many other countries could absorb the monetary damages we took last year and now this year and not have a near economic collapse. Not many I would guess, maybe Japan.

Saying he "could" do something is meaningless.
Saying he "would" do something is less meaningless.
Saying he "has done" something is meaningful.

I assume the reason he "could" or "would" do something is because the US would have to accept the aid and allow it in the country. Which I assume we won't.

Mostly because his offer of aid is designed to score political points, so we won't accept it. Just like our aid is designed to score political points, but other countries can't afford not to accept it.

Has he actually offerred anything? Saying "yeah, we could send them some stuff..." doesn't really qualify as an "offer" of anything. In any case, as you said, this was just a political stunt. He just expects us to refuse his aid and probably has no intention of sending anything.

Our aide comes from neighboring states normally. I know we have at least 50 crews from Progress Energy, North Carolina who left late last night to help restore power in some of the areas sourrounding N.O. If we're sending aide from way over here on the east coast im sure the neighboring states are doing just as much if not alot more.

Americans depend on themselves

Well, you guys spend billions on foreign aid instead of putting into your total shit k-12 education system. Maybe you need new allocation of funds. IE, thinking about bettering yourself before others?

I'm actually surprised no evangelists have blamed Katrina on God punishing New Orleans for letting women flash their breasts during Mardi Gras yet Wink
