You people sure make people feel bad for being scammed (not like being scammed is enough burden all in its own). But anyway, I was scammed and I could use some aide on what I should do now. I attempted to sell a WOW account, 70 Epic Priest. for $600. Someone contacted me wanting to purchase. This is the first time I have even been onto this website (and of course I went through the 'how do I get credits to post' phase). Anyway, we agreed to using PayPal. I waited until I saw the 600 dollars in my paypal account before I released any information to him. I also waited until I transfered the PayPal money from paypal to my bank account, then released the information to him. He indicated that he was able to log in and he changed the password (I know he changed it because I tried to log in myself and user/pass was different. I couldnt log in for the first time in 6 years of playing WOW). Then today, he filed a claim that the transaction was unauthorized. The funds were reversed from my bank, and from my paypal account. My question for you all is this, what can I do to get my money? I've already spoken and explained everything to Paypal, fortunately I recorded our entire conversation so I have proof that he #1 wanted to make the transaction, #2 he prompted me to check my paypal account upon him making the transaction, #3 proof that he was able to use my information and log into Blizzard account management. But of course now he is saying that the information I gave him was incorrect, and that he did not willingly give me money. Has this happened to anyone else, did you resolve the problem and was it in your favor? I'm going to be rediculously upset if I lose both $600 and my WOW account behind this.

Well perhaps you should have:

A) Read the registration terms. - You posted contact info outside the PM system, how the hell are we supposed to know who scammed you? *big round of applause*. But wait, it gets better. Despite posting contact info, you did trade with somebody on the site known as Jack8luo. I could go on and write several paragraphs on why this the blame lies with you as much as it does with the scammer, but quite frankly i'd rather get back to GTA IV.

B) You never bothered to read the articles & numerous pages of info on safe trading. If you had, you would have made a transaction that didnt include Paypalol as a payment method.

Ok, so how to fix it?

DO A BARREL ROLL!

Phone Blizzard asap (do not use webform, you will get a reply in 6 weeks and an empty account) and request an email change. You will be asked to supply CD-key, last name, secret answer, confirm phone number etc.. If they refuse, hang up and try again, customer service staff are generally pissy by the end of the day and cant be bothered helping you so they make excuses like "its against our policy", or "im afraid you need to use the webform". Tell them you dont have access to the internet atm and when you last checked your account you could not log in and the email was no longer the one you registered with. They will assume you were hacked and deal with it.

Well before you response Odus and look like a d**k (o wait, too late for that), I did read and do all your steps for 'safe trade'. First of all Paypal IS safe, what isn't safe are people. But I suppose that since you arent the one with the scam situation you feel empowered to speak as though you are almighty. Odus, you arent. You are a moderator of a forum that is poorly operated. Grow up before making any more posts on these forums, because right now you just sound like a 12 yr old twit. AND I can go on and on how you are to blame for sounding like a 12 yr old twit.

If the account is in YOUR name and you can prove it just use the account recovery webform.

I recovered a recent account that I was scammed out of, it took one week to get my account back, it doesn't take 6 weeks, that may have been in the past, but blizzard is fairly quick about it nowadays.

And you are only losing an account so far, not $600. The guy just stole your account.

Hopefully the account was in your name as you will be asked for proof of identity (drivers license or State ID).

If the account was in your name you have nothing to worry about, blizzard will reverse any damages done to the account, like if he disenchants your gear or such.

If the account was not in your name, you are screwed.

And finally I also agree that the blame is on you, not for the decisions you made but for actually thinking that anyone legit is going to pay $600 for any account here. Your chances are literally 1 in a million, not even professional WoW gold/account sites manage to sell for that much, and when they do it takes them months, yet you didn't think it was fishy that someone just instantly offered you $600? Use your brain, how many people have $600 just laying around burning a hole in their pocket to spend on a VIDEOGAME account? I wouldn't spend that much on my WIFE, C'mon, common sense. If it is too good to be true - THEN IT IS.

Obviously in the same way as guns are safe, people arent. Nuclear bombs are safe, people arent. We have been bashing our heads against the wall to inform users to stop using paypalol to receive money. Sure, it is safe for an honest buyer, but the problem is you dont know who is honest. Hence the premium section opening in a month or so to reduce scam rates by a large proportion. Paypal is relatively safe there, in public section it is not. Verified? Who the hell cares, they get stolen every day to pay, recall and repeat. Paypal is not safe regardless of how you spin it, the only reason we allow it is because the majority of teens have an account and it is easy to setup.

True, im not stupid enough to get involved with trading accounts, and if i was i'd sure as hell have used Western Union.

Quite frankly i think you should turn tail and find another site when you sell your account. You get scammed, b***h about it here on your high horse about how you need help and you dont do the decent thing by even telling us who it was so we can get evidence & ban them. You sure are a great help to the community allowing a user to continue scamming accounts.

Poorly operated? We have 3 active moderators and 3 active admins to run one of the largest free, public account trading websites on the internet. We set down strict rules on trading and the majority of our time is spent rectifying peoples accidental or intentional rules broken. I suggest you visit other trading websites and tell us how the public section compares.

We do not get paid for this. We do this in our free time to give people a place to trade virtual items & accounts, talk and get news on the gaming industry. So please, if we are such a shit website, go ahead and make your own website and show us how inferior we are to you.

Here's the best part that really put a smile on my face today:

I was scammed as well by trying to sell my account to someone I thought I could trust using paypal. I am not going to get in detail here about my account being scammed but the bottom line is paypal is only safe if your sell a "tangible" item. Wow accounts are not tangible they are intangible items UNLESS you post something on ebay like a piece of paper with gibberish on it and sell it that way that will attach a tracking number to it. It is like you shipped the account to the buyer and be sure you are a premier member of paypay and have used the more than 4-5 times because you have rep with them and they are more likely to help you. I lost over 1200 dollars and went as far as contacting my attorney to contact payapl but because it was not a tangible item I was screwed and paypal could not protect me and hence the item or account was not insured. As every post or owners of sites will tell you read their rules on trading or posts on selling or buying but the bottom line here is until you actually go through an experience with being scammed you sure in the hell cannot post to what ppl go through or feel what they feel.

I found someone on this site and was scammed by them as well and they post trying to claim I scammed them. This trading thing we do is a HUGE risk and you do it at your own peril but I will say this to everyone who gives a shit about what I am going to say about trading from personal experience: I personally have never scammed anyone but have had it happen to me 4 times and trust me you get p****d even more everytime it happens. The only way you can protect your account when trading is if you are the OO and have proof via Blizz policies to get it back otherwise you cannot do crap about it unless the OO you got the account from is will to help you out in the event of a account froze because of excess email changing. This is one way of protecting your account if you are not the OO of that account or even if you are, NEVER give the email change or the sq, the only thing the trader needs if they are trustworthy is the account name/pw because you can do everything you need with just that info. Because if the OO wants the account back they will just use their first and last name with the sq to get it back from you with Blizz's help. 9 times out of 10 if the trader is trustworthy they will agree to just the account name/pw and if they keep insisting on the other info they do not have plans on keeping that account anyway. Selling the account is different, give all the info need in that case. I probably left out a few things but I hope you get my point and stop listening to ppl that say you need all the account info to secure a "trade" because you don't if you find a trustworthy person. And remember changing an email on a account and trying to recover that account in the event of it being scammed will get that account frozen, I just went through that but after sending my info to account admin, after 1 day I was able to get it back. Blizz will freeze the account if they feel it has been compromised or any illegal activity has gone on with that account. Protect yourself and done trade fast and be sure the trader you are dealing with is trustworthy and does not make excuses or evade certain question you may have no matter how petty the question may seem.

Final Thought: Realpoor staff, this post is by no means trying to say you don't know what you are doing and I have used this site for my trades and in fact was the first one I used to begin my trading career or whatever you want to call that, lol. You have a great site and is used by alot of ppl but I am just simply posting my experience and what needs to be done in order to have a stress free trade or sell.

Here's a pretty good guideline

If someone offers you $100-$200 for an account there's a 50% chance you're going to get scammed.

$300 - 60%
$400 - 70%
$500 - 80%
$600 - 90%
$1200 - 100%

You're out of your mind if you couldn't see that coming, $1200? You gotta be f*****g kidding me, lol.

Just as I stated in my post, I will not go in to the details of my account and what was sold. And that part of it is just a point I am trying to make. And for the record post on what you know and not guess what you think something is.

Hi drxeno02,

I was in the same shoes as you were just 2 weeks ago...I receive a PM from a buyer, he posts on my thread for verification, makes a payment via paypal, everything clears and everyone is a happy camper right? Wrong...the following MORNING at work, I receive an e-mail from paypal on a payment dispute. That truly made my day....

Long story short, I did exactly what Odus had advised. CALL BLIZZ! Get your acct back. If the scammer knows your Secret Q/A, transfer the character to a new account and e-mail *safefy precautions incase the scammer dares to try and call Blizz to change the registered e-mail*

No matter how hard you try, if they dispute the transaction on paypal, you wil lose. They don't cover electronic transactions. I told paypal, I had proof of our conversation and what not but they did not do a thing. IMO if you're selling an account thats worth a lot of money, do your transaction through western union/money order. Don't bother with those who have little to no posting history. Phone conversation and verification won't hurt.

Hope you get everything squared away. Good luck!

Lock the thread for what. I lol at you for having no basis, lmfao. We are having a healthy view of what not to do with our accounts. If you cannot form an opinion on this site or have a b***h or view on experience with selling and trading then why have this site for that purpose. And for the record, if this has not happened to you you cannot speak to our experience. So lock away Mr.Power hungry Moderator!!!!!!! And alway remember this site is not the only site to buy/sell/trade and share views on what goes down in our gaming world.

The thread isnt going to be locked providing the OP decides not to post more crap here, as he has done in the WoW section regarding me. Why he has taken such a personal blow to this, god only knows. Normally drxeno02 would be outright banned for breaking several rules, however he will be staying here on my request for the time being and can perhaps learn a lesson from this. Barrading the site & staff with insults, then making several threads targetting a staff member i.e. myself, then claiming we will be the ones to help him trade safely is not something we take kindly to.

Back to the subject, as i stated the thread will not be locked, however if you wish to discuss useful pieces of information regarding how to go about recalling accounts/dealing with a dispute on Paypal i suggest you make a new thread that doesnt include the first half of the posts totally off topic.

I banned him

He's a fit throwing t**t.

He was the idiot.
he got screwed

Paypal is safe only if done in 1 fashion.
I have said dozens of times to send a letter of intent to sell/purchase to the address. Registered, certified and wait for a reply before doing the deal. This eliminates their chances of claiming fraud or theft...but no.......Glad you read about how to get credits, trying googling paypal scam, scam prevention, etc, etc.

Why have I been the vanguard for the "dickhead" approach ? being nice to people who get scammed for being outright stupid seems to not be effective.
Once you feel like the biggest idiot on the planet you find yourselves not making the same mistakes twice. You want to issue personal attacks, send em my way
