For a casual player, that just wants to explore, have some fun, enjoy some group ****, gamble a little etc. So I don’t intend to became a mayor or something, I just want to hang around with people over there. Is there a way not to pay and yet enjoy the game?

So, if you want a really good time down there in Second Life, you should go premium. But, if there are some people who are willing to pay all your expenses in the game, than you can even avoid paying for it. But I really don’t think that 10 bucks a month is too much.
