At my friends house they have 3 computers all useing winXP on a wireless network. They use a microsoft router though. They have never had a problem with it cutting off and they play games religiously in that house.

If you (or quite possibly nearby neighbor's, the phones now adays have massive range) use 2.4ghz cordless phones they can/sometimes will cause your signal to drop. Some of the cheaper 2.4ghz phones have a very small range of channels in the 2.4ghz range they use so you probably wont see any issues with those. While the more expensive one's have a huge range of channels in the 2.4ghz range and when the phone switch's to the channel your wireless network is using then bam, your disconnected (generally).
Im not sure with linksys but I know with belkin wireless product's you MUST install the software/drivers before the card is put into the machine or it will s***w it up. I did tech support for belkin networking products for a while and that was the number 1 most common problem that I encountered. So I would double check the install instructions.
Also not a bad idea when you install the card to select the option to NOT have windows manage your wireless connections, let the software the card came with manage your connection, that seems to help quite often as well.

I just recently switched to wireless and its fine for websurfing like yo uall are saying but I get horrible ping while gaming online. Counter strike lags every 30 seconds for about 3 seconds. Games like starcraft dont lag much but it won't let me host games now with the wireless connection. Over all I wouldn't reccommend wireless to anyone unless they use their computer strictly for surfing the web.

Wireless blows and will blow for a while until they stabalize it. The signal gets too weak and outside interference... its not worth it.
Nothing beats a hardwire connection.
can't go wrong unless you got rats chewing through the lines..
