The charter school's 422 students wear small plastic cards around their necks that have their photograph, name and grade printed on them, and include an embedded RFID chip. As the children enter the school, they approach a kiosk where a reader activates the chip's signal and displays their photograph. The students touch their picture, and the time of their entry into the building is recorded in a database. A school staffer oversees the check-in process.

I personally wouldn't let my kid go to a school that required some kind of b******t tracking system for students like that.

Why not? They can track you with your cellphone too =/ It's for security and safety imo.

I worked for the govermnent for about a year. I had to use my badge to go to the washroom, when I was getting a coke or a chocolate bar, when I was going to the next floor, when I was taking copies, when I was in the archives; for every single thing (besides sitting in my office) I had to use my badge.

This was only done after 9/11, since our offices were *right* next to the American Embassy. But the second we had a fire-alarm go off, they knew exactly who was were and on what floor.

I guess it's up to the parents. They have the choice of sending their kids there or somewhere else...oh wait, they don't.

I think it's great too.

Nothing like the folks who are just looking for something to freak out over, or have their rights stepped on.

they tried to do some thing similar in my public highschool after 9/11 we had to have an ID badge with our picture on at all times tho there were no scanner things at the entrances. If you dident have your ID the school would fine you for another one then send you to In school Suspension. (IE teacher kicks you outa class you walk outa thee building unleess your a tard) It dident last long

I dunno...having little Johnny see his best friend's brains splattered all over the walls of his classroom by some kid who got fed up with bullies...would kinda overshadow an electronic tagging system...at least in my book.
