|
|
|
I've never owned to many printers so I am having a problem.
Few months back I got a s****y deskjet that I could never get the drivers to install right.
Now someone gave me a EPSON Stylus C80 which is basically new.
I can't get my comp to f*****g install this damn thing via CD and via manually.
Everythings connected and all.
Plus under control panel in the printer & faxes option if i hit add printer I get the bad noise and a error that says Operations could not be completed.
FYI:
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
640mb DDR PC2100 ram
Windows XP Pro SP1

Does it show you the printer as an unknown device in Device Manager?

Aye it's connected via USB cable.
I just looked under System Information and went under components and it does not show up under printing but it does under Problem Devices and under the error code is says the drivers for this device are not installed (i knew this part)
It is showing up under USB in system information though. I have it plugged in the USB port in the front of my computer by the way.
I think my USB ports are 1.0 and not 2.0 I don't think that really matters though.

try rebooting your pc.
if that doesn't work try replacing the ink jet with your hand and a pen.
As the paper feeds across, print the document as best you can with your own hand. Results may vary depending on your legibility.

Are you an idiot?
The drivers will not install without getting errors.
I would hit you in the face with a brick if I could.

9/10 times when I worked at Gateway and people couldn't install their printers it was the persons fault.

Paden-
Calm down Do you have any other working USB devices? If not you may need to enable USB in the BIOS, the fact that you're trying to use a secondary controller card in the front of your case makes me think that the card isn't enabled and thus windows can't install the drivers for the device. Go check and let me know

In all truth Paden it usually was because it was done wrong. I have done the same thing with a printer before. Some require you to install the drivers before hooking up the printer. Not sure if this is one of them though.

Ok here is a rational list of what to do first
1. Make sure your printer does not require usb 2.0 and you are plugging it into a USB 1.1 slot it will not work if you are doing this and alot of front usb are 1.1 and rears are 2.2 if you computer is older than 4ish years it probably wont have 2.0
2. if it is in the right usb port make sure that the usb port works by plugging a usb device into it. The device should automatically be detected and installed. Make sure you are already fully booted up when it does it.
3. What version of windows are you running? if you are running 98 you can not truly support usb and will have to get windows xp to run a usb printer.
4. if all else fails check for a driver update to your motherboard if you havent updated it in a long enough time it might have faulty usb drivers on it.

with windows xp you shouldnt need to install the drivers for it to detect the device and list it as an unknown device. If it is not listing it as an unknown device when you plug it into your usb you likely have a dead cable printer or usb slot that is incompatible with the printer
