I have an old laptop.
Toshiba
AMD k6
32mb of ram
4gig HDD

I wanna put linux or freebsd on it for s***s and giggles and also to learn the OS.

I tried to put slackware on it last night and I cant get it to boot up now it just says insert system disk in drive.
press and key when ready.........

My question to realpoor is what is a good new OS to start off with if I have been a slave to microsoft my entire life.

I would recommend Debian. It is the second most stable version of Linux out there. The first being Gentoo which is just as hard to install as performing open heart surgery.

that reminds me of like when parents try to "talk all dope" and try to "be hip" and "with it"

and also reminds me of people that like to "use lots of quotes" when they "talk" or "type"
