You can choose not to believe it, but he really isn't using cheats. The game is actually running a touch slow, the sound specifically becuase he is playing on NESticle. These are all in game bugs.

i dunno, in same of those places i dont know how he didnt die.
like the parts where he was going through the fireballs underwater??
and there were a couple parts in other ones where he went through a lot of enemies, hammers, etc.
dont get me wrong, the guy is good. and that turtle shit in 8-3 or whatever, was f****n nuts.
and the one where he got to the pole with 000 seconds, lol.
pretty cool.

ya lolz i remember you could do that with game genie codes.
and you'd just run and run and run and nothing would be there except the repeating scenery.
and it wont let you go back, you sjsut run until time runs out!!

not many webspace accounts where you can host a 100MB file and post it on a public message board and not run out of bandwidth quicky.. plus it's hosted at a .edu so i'm sure they have plenty of bandwidth to spare
