They simply don't have an edge over Nvidia anymore.
Not with the 6800, or with SLI (SLI will always be why Nvidia is number 1). |
atis lower end series is still better.. i am sorry but ya the 6800 series wins but the cheapest there is 300 bucks, 300 bucks is not what most people spend on a card, at the 150 price point ATI wins hands down.. sorry but its true and everyone agrees... the current round goes to ati yes but the last round didnt and the people who buy a nvidia card from the last round because they are ahead this round are stupid f***s.
We have yet to really see how SLI will turn out, its certain that ati will have sli too and most peopledont have pcie yet anyway.. especially not at lower price points.,

SLI nets a 85% increase in most games. ATI can't do SLI themselves because it's an Nvidia technology that they aquired when they bought 3DFx. The only company offering ATI type SLI is Alienware, and they sure as shit aren't giving out their technology either.

There's a stickied post in the tech help section of the EQ2 message boards describing which cards work best (or not at all) with EQ2. Also, I believe I saw a list of every PCI card that will run EQ2 on there. I think there are 5 total.
As for the Dell incident, there's a reason people build their own computers. Computer manufacturers talk a good game, but they skimp on some things that can really bite you on the ass later, like motherboards, video cards, and sound cards. But you already know that.
Next time, if you absolutely HAVE to buy from a manufacturer, go with Alienware or Falcon Northwest and get a gaming rig. You'll pay a little extra, but at least you'll know every piece of equipment in your computer is of good quality.

I bought a new computer last month, went to install my beautious new video card, and lo and behold.... no f*****g AGP slot. I bought a new motherboard and did something wrong while installing it, now nothing works. So I have a $1200 coaster in my office collecting dust. Apparently there are alot of computers out there at Best Buy (where I got mine), Circuit City, and the likes that don't have AGP or PCIexpress slots.
Be careful whatever you do, and don't take advice from people on the internet (no offense, guys!). You get too many opinions (which I originally thought was a good thing) and in the end, you're gonna end up stuck with whatever you get/change. Call Dell and ask if they can put in a different motherboard. |
This is why I laugh at anyone who doesn't build their own computer. |
s***w you. You laugh at me for not building my own computer? Wtf, that's really cool.
Anyway, I built my last one like 5 years ago, I just left it at my parent's house for them when I bought my own house. And last time I built it, I spent more TIME and money on building one than I would have if I had just bought one from the store. Seeing as how I just bought an 90 year old house and work everynight on either renovating, have boxing class, or have german class- there's not a whole lot left over to research building a new computer. And Best Buy offers a hell of a deal after all the rebates. I couldn't have built this computer cheaper and I would have wasted alot of time doing n**d stuff instead of actually enjoying my real life. Apparently this situation isn't that rare. Alot of these newer computers don't have the AGP slot.
An the cheapest Alienware was still $600 more than my computer after rebates. That's alot of money for a video game (since that's what I mainly use it for). Hardly justifiable.
