Ok so I have a 2.8GHz system however for some f****d up reason dell gave me a system with only PCI plugs, no AGP or PCI Express to work with. So someone let me know what I can get in terms of just a vid card if there is anything that will allow me to play this game? You all know you will miss the pink wizard so its in your best interest to help me get going! :-p

Say no to PCI Express for gaming at this time.
As for only having PCI plugs - best thing you could probably do is buy a new PC.
Dell MBs are custom made to fit their case and their ram is custom made for their MBs - as far as I know there's no way to upgrade.
Don't think there are any PCI cards that meet the EQ II requirements... even a radeon 9800pro can handle the game only on balanced settings. (I play on performance, higher FPS make me happy

I run a xti 9800 Radeon pro and it works wonderful on high settings. Dont know where your getting your info Soriak, Mine is a 256 mgb card with a 3.2 gig HT proccessor so that may be the difference.

Mine is only 128mb - guess that's it. It depends where I play - outdoors I can easily run on high settings, but once I enter the city I have to go to balanced and turn off some shadows.

considering high settings now are the same as medium settings a month ago its not surprising... 128 mb doesnt make that big of a difference.

thats really unbelievable.. i really dont think theres anything you can do, i dont think anyone makes pci vid cards anymore... outside of just 32 mb ones to connect a monitor and that wont help you.

I am looking into getting a new video card myself. I have a friend in beta who has about the same system specs as me with the same video gare (NVidia Gefore 5200 FX) and he said the game runs fine. So its not a priority for me, but I am looking. I personally dont dig on ATI as I havent had great experiences with them in the past so I am looking for a good NVidia one

There are PCI versions of the FX line of Nvidia cards, but you'll lose alot of bandwith with not having AGP
|

The built in card sucked major balls so I put my old radeon 7000 64mb in and it ran EQ fine. Anyone think this might be able to take EQ2 with the revamped graphics engine?

ATI cards will play EQ2 better almost without a doubt, ati owns nvidia hardcore in terms of drivers for the 3D engine eq2 uses... it does depend tho, if your shelling out 400 bucks the gts are still the best buy.. if your only spending 100 of whatever the 9700 series is the best... nvidias fx series sucked goat balls.

Oddly enough I play with an FX (one of the light versions, I'm cheap) and it works great.
My buddy has a 6800 GT Ultra or whatever the hell that 600 dollar card is called exactly, amazing how it looks on that.

The same thing just happened to me Renork. I bought a new computer last month, went to install my beautious new video card, and lo and behold.... no f*****g AGP slot. I bought a new motherboard and did something wrong while installing it, now nothing works. So I have a $1200 coaster in my office collecting dust. Apparently there are alot of computers out there at Best Buy (where I got mine), Circuit City, and the likes that don't have AGP or PCIexpress slots.
Be careful whatever you do, and don't take advice from people on the internet (no offense, guys!). You get too many opinions (which I originally thought was a good thing) and in the end, you're gonna end up stuck with whatever you get/change. Call Dell and ask if they can put in a different motherboard.

meh, dells mid end systems are by and large decent systems.. if you dont run up the price with stupid shit and upgrade a bit yourself they can even be as cheap as building yourself sometimes... when i buy a dell i always just get the min hdd, min ram cause putting in a new hdd and new ram is trivial even for people without pc exp.

The thing is, there's plenty of guides out there on the internet, that you can sit and read that will explain step-by-step how to build and maintain your own system, in a non-technical way, that ANYONE can do. There is simply no exscuse for not being able to build a computer in this day and age.
It's not rocket science. The hardest part is getting over the fear that you'll break something.

ya, but in defense of people who buy dell.. building a pc instead of buying not only means you need to know how to build it but also how to troubleshoot it.. because shit will go wrong and for most people a dell warranty saves them alot of time.. think about how bad most people are with spyware and shit, even if they could build a system without techsuport it would be useless within a month.

I wanted to build my own, I know I would be fine doing it. My parents wanted me to have dells tech suport and a warrenty shit for some reason. they suck at technology.

Not gonna do it - every ATI card I have purchased has given me nothing but problems wether it be drivers, hardware, whatever. I will never buy another ATI card =)

I had one fry a mobo... an EXPENSIVE mobo... I wasn't happy

They simply don't have an edge over Nvidia anymore.
Not with the 6800, or with SLI (SLI will always be why Nvidia is number 1).

If you break a stick of ram or a 3d card or anything putting it in then it's your fault because you're not a registered computer technician and you can't get a refund for it. I think this is what puts most people off building their own computers. I buy my own stuff but I get my pro-geek friends to put my stuff in cause I don't wanna f**k it up
