In our case, we have ~8 ppl in a 'loot committee' that are, for the most part, at every single raid. Generally a representative of every major class/archetype.
Having one person deciding on loot would make me a little nervous as well
Even in a merit system attendance at raids is taken into consideration. Personally, I don't care much for the idea of saving up points just to 'out-bid' someone for a piece of loot ... that's where I bow to the committee's decision on who would benefit best with the concern focused on guild-strength.

Well, I wish those that were in Infamous luck in finding a new home. ALthough I've never been in more then one guild, I know it would probably stink to have the one you were in, fold.
As far as looting goes, greater amount of raiding and limited numbers of better items entering your guild dictates the system you use. If your an officer deciding on a new loot system to address these opportunities, your primary concern should be instituting a system which takes as much 'on the fly judgements' out of it as possible, imo. Strict merit works, but it puts incredible strain on the individual(s) doing it, that it almost makes more sense that 1 person be doing it (whether it be 1 person for each group of 'classes' or not is unimportant). There is just way too much that can be included in a 'who is most worthy' discussion on loot. If your a member attempting to find what is the best system for them, I would first recommend attempting to find an officer core that you 'trust'. Point based systems are not meant to subjugate a core 'trust' in the officership, and guilds that are counting them on doing so, will fail miserably. Likewise, if you are a member joining a guild with a points based system, and you still have no 'trust' in the officers administering that system, your not making a very intelligent guild choice.
Most people do not realize that successful guilds have members with a high degree of trust in their officers, and officers who have a high degree of respect for their membership. That is what makes a successful guild, period.

The memory of the ragefire camp and iron cross list that changed every couple weeks, then was replaced by list 2.0, 2.1, 2.2....
makes me want to slam my head into the pavement, american history x style.

You just never know, they might be one and the same. It could be why hell is hell, and homosexuals are not afraid.
