Okay, I'm having problems with my speakers, and my CD-Drive reading CD-ROMS. When I put a game into the CD-Drive you would see it would start reading the disk, then it would stop and it'd be like you put nothing in there, nothing pops up, no sounds. With my speakers, I have speakers that were plugged in lit up, and made a pop noise when you turn it on. When I go to fix this issue, it says there are no speakers inserted into the tower. As I can see it's lit up and makes a pop noise when I turn it on. So, I go out and get new speakers, I put those in, they don't make a noise at all, but they are lit up, and seem like they are working. Is this because I have a bad tower? Do you think I would need a new computer for this? Reply please. Thanks Realpoor.com!

strange, maybe something to do with drivers...

Or, bad drivers, like Starforce

Maybe, but I honestly think it's a bad driver, I just asked people to be positive. It could be the drivers, your absolutley right.

I would be interested to know if this is an OEM box (all made from a manufacturer such as Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.) or a 'whitebox' build from parts.

If you have a good warranty I would go through that to get the CD-ROM drive replaced. If the sound card is not working they might also replace it or replace the whole mother board if it is built in (very likely).

Otherwise it sounds like driver or hardware issues. Honestly if using warranty for replacements is not an option a quick $50 investment would fix you. A good DVD/CD reader/burner will cost under $30 and a PCI sound card around $20.

As someone mentioned, if your machine is a "white box" and not from dell or whoever, lots of builders forget to put the little wire from the back of the CD/DVD drive to the soundcard. If that's not there then you will never hear sounds from an audio cd. You can still rip it and play so its worth seeing if you can rip 1 track and play it.

Thats 1 avenue of approach.. If it's a CD issie then you should check AutoInsertNotification is on (right click the drive and its in the properties somewhere).

If it's not that then you may have a firmware problem or possibly some Protection Driver like Starforce is interfering with the game you are tring to install.

Try those first and if nothing works post more info and I will try to sort it.

I would just check your connections and drivers. Could possible be a bad sound card.
