Ads before movies prompts lawsuit
Anything to keep as much advertising out of our lives as possible is a good thing, this has honestly diminished my theater-going experience by alot the last few times I've gone. There's nothing quite like paying $8.50 to see the same Pepsi and Toyota ads over and over again. Ugh, I hope those advertisers realize they're prompting me to not buy their products with their cheap-a*s insulting made-for-TV commericals.
Here's a hint: the public has a limit to how many commericials they're willing to tolerate. You know why TV commercial breaks are only a few minutes long at most? Because everybody gets very angry and restless past that! We're being taken advantage of, we're becoming prisoners in the theater. Advertisers, actually sit in a theater for a change and listen to the chorus of groans when the 5th commercial starts. That's not a good thing! If you mean to start a movie at 7:50, then list that as the starting time, not 7:30 a******s. 20 minutes of flimsy pre-movie festivities is the last thing I want to endure if I'm seeing something like The Two Towers.
And here's another hint: if you're gonna plop a commerical in front of a $100 million movie, give us something good to see! Make proper use of the medium! I can think of no greater hell than a 20 ft Dale Earnhardt Jr. guzzling Coke in front of me and I'm without a damn mute button. (hey, there's a good idea... ) Spend some money on some actors and a good director, or get the hell off the silver screen.

In a class-action lawsuit filed in Illinois state court on behalf of all Loews patrons, the Chicago-area English teacher claims the theater circuit's policy of playing pre-film product commercials amounts to a deceptive business practice because the ads begin at the time advertised as the start of a feature movie. The legal action reflects the reaction of many moviegoers jarred by the increasing prominence of onscreen advertising in theaters industrywide. In fact, the succession of such pre-movie ads now often lasts up to 10 minutes or longer in many venues..... |

I'm glad to see someone else hates the commercials at movies. It's getting ridiculous. A lot of times now the movie doesn't start for a good 20-30 minutes after the announced starting time. If they want to show commercials while I'm waiting for the movie to start if I get there early fine, but not on my time.
The most irritating thing is a lot of people don't seem to mind them. As long as they flash a lot of images really fast, go BOOM a lot, and maybe have some celebrities in them, it's like that's as good as a movie to them. Which maybe says something about the quality of films today.

or stage a protest...or a petition - maybe a boycott?
way to waste taxpayer money
show your preference with your money (don't pay the theater)..not mine (court time)
i hope these losers get charged major court costs and it gets thrown out
i hate commercials at the movies as much as anyone else but damn...stupid lawsuits have to stop

easy solution
show up 15 minutes late to the movie and buy your candy/soda at a convenience store and sneak it inside - don't watch their advertising, don't give the bastards any profits aside from the actual ticket sale
There are way too many stupid lawsuits in this country - every idiot bringing a frivolous lawsuit (this, the McDonald's one) should be forced to pay double court costs, the defense's costs, AND spend a few nights in jail as punishment. Not any lawsuit that you lose, just the ones that are determined to be frivolous and without any grounds whatsoever, that should never have been filed in the first place.

they are suing for $75 bucks per person in class action (claiming lost time)
basically that is there so that the lawyers of the plaintiff get paid...the people don't care about the money but there are costs to a lawsuit
the problem is
who will pay for the goverments time...court costs etc
lawsuits aren't free even if you aren't suing for money:P
the courts don't do an adequete job of collection court costs nor punishing those people that waste time

only theater I go to now is called "the alamo draft house"
They show first run movies for normal ticket prices ($7), dont have any advertizing except for their own events before the movies, and they serve food and beer.
Theyve taken every other row of seats out and put in long tables. Waters come by during the movie to pick up orders you write on paper. Its great.
Its either that or vcd's. I wont give a theater $8 for a movie that has commercials before it, then is loaded with product placment commercials in the movie also.

When it comes to commercials, no one is holding a gun to your head making you watch them.
When commercials come on my TV (though i rarely watch it) i hit the mute button. that's what it's there for. dont let yourself be influenced by that shit.
when it comes to the movie theatre, it's pretty sickening, but still, i just usually laugh out loud, mock the advertisers and their cheesy commercials, and make all sorts of ruckus. it disgusts me, and usually people are pretty amused, and join in in the obnoxious public behaviour.

Come come now Vek! You're smart enough to know that getting to the movie late is worse then getting there 'early' and having to watch the commercials. Depending on the movie and the release date, showing up 15 minutes late = no seat... For premier movies 15 minutes beforehand isnt enough to get a seat.
