Question is, can you solo forever? When does it turn into another Guild-based EQ where you can't progress your character unless you join a guild and play/camp mobs for hours on end?

I like the current low level aspect of doing quests and the random item drop on creatures is pretty cool. Ability to log on for an hour, gain some xp and maybe nice drop/quest item, then log off.

If it turns into EQ playstyle, I may just play Guild Wars. Razz

EVERY class can level from 1-60 solo. Some are just more efficient than others. Melee have to go to town more often then casters to repair durability, while casters have more downtime in between kills.

I think this will be an eventual downfall with both EQ 2 and WoW.

Having to group slowed the leveling process in that being sometimes you just can't find a group, hence resulting in people logging off and doing something more productive with their life.

Now, you can ALWAYS get exp and level up, NOTHING to stop you. There is no restraints.. which yes sounds great right now... but if you think longterm, everyone is going to be in the upper levels alot faster than eqlive.... which will result in alot more congestion and eventually nothing to do... people will want more and who knows how fast the devs can keep up with the public.

I think having to group spreaded things out a little bit and created a more sociable and more fun gameplay.

But instanced events are supposed to take care of high end crowding, right?

There are single group instances throughout the game. Like the Deadmines, and Gnomeregan where you need to crawl through to the end with a single group to complete the quests (quest items dont drop in raid groups).

Take Gnomregan for instance, probably one of the craziest zones I've been in. The end boss (Thermalplugg) sits in the middle of a giant room with statues all around it, and during the fight the statues spawn little bombs that run at you and do 500 damage. You can turn off the statues by pushing little red buttons on the side of them, so it's quite fun to be killing this uber badass mob and having to run around and push the buttons so you don't get owned by bombs.

That's just an example of the ways Blizzard has managed to make the game enjoyable. Gone are the days of just tanking a mob and trying to deal out as much DPS as possible.

Another great raid type instance is ShadowFang Keep, where you have to fight a giant Wolf, and the end boss is a Mage that blinks around the room while you're fighting it.

These are all low to mid range "raid" type instances mind you, so it gives your guild something to achieve even if they aren't level 60.

From what i can tell, you can solo for exp all you like and its defintly better exp to solo then group, however if you want the really good gear you have to group or to do the quest. No one is going to be able to solo the Elite quests, so you kinda form little 5 - 10 man raids to get them done.

I'm 36 on Test Server 9. Taking a break and playing some other classes or I'd be 40 right now. Razz

The fastest way to level is in a group doing quests, not solo. If you're xp grinding on mobs, you're simply retarded.

You obviously didn't play FFXI and sit around for hours a day lfg Razz The great thing about WoW is that I have no problem making an alt and leveling him until my guildies log on to group with me Smile

If you know where to go you can solo most the way. The main thing are the instances you need to group.

Key if you want to solo easily is try to do quests when they are green and yellow. Sometimes you mind end up grinding a lvl out, but not to often.

Did my first instance tonight in the Deadmines and all i can say was HOLY CRAP WAS THAT f*****g COOL!!!! The first mate fight was hands down the coolest fight i've ever been in playing a MMRPG, and I raided about everything that could be raided in EQ and COH and a bit of DAOC. Nothing compares to the raw coolness of that 1 fight. It wasn't that tough persay, but just so unexpected and hilarious.

That and I came away with my own parrot. God what I'd give for there not to be a character wipe so i can keep my parrot. *prays*

HOLY SHIT! I just did my first instance in the Wailing Caverns the other night. It was a pretty standard crawl fighting the wing bosses, but man once we got to the end and fought the Everling... wow. AE root, knockdown, big as 10 Taurens, oh man the joy of something original and FUN!

I'm assuming you never made it past Level 40....Grinding really is the way to go, and solo at that. Grouping just CB's my exp and I can solo almost all quests incl. Elites (non-instances). Nothing beats 350-400 xp/kill that takes 10 secs to kill and barely any downtime. Takes me 4 hours a level. If I finished all the quests in Feralas or Tanaris that *might* get me one level.

I played a Warrior. However, a Rogue/Mage/Hunter/Priest can easily level just as fast. I think the biggest factor is how I group the quests I do. I normally finish 5-8 quests within the same general area before returning to town and turning all the quests in. I see a lot of retards who HAVE to go turn in after Every quest they do, and it's a waste of time. But yea, Grinding is really the way to go Lvl 40+. When it takes you 120k to make a level and it takes you 30-45 mins to finish a Lvl 40+ quest for a whooping 3-4k XP, it simply isn't worth it. And you don't have to be a "retard" to choose Grinding over Questing/Grouping at these levels

Since when was it worthwhile to grind in groups? In a full group of 5, 2-3 level difference, doing +2-3 lvl elite mobs, you get a whooping 90-120 XP/kill vs. the 350-400 XP/kill I get solo. Not to mention without the morons and absurd amount of Repairs I have to pay after doing an Instance run.

they are adding a lot more stuff than you think, there will be plenty to do. For example, hero classes, changing into a tauren cheiftan or the blademaster is a lot of work im sure. Don't make too many assumptions, blizzard is a lot better company than the people who are putting eq2 out.
