Well... as you know, things change.. and sometimes people who are a certain way come to a point in their lives when they need a change.

I have come to such a point. I've decided to go straight.

I can't stand the way I am right now... I'm angry and confused.

My hair has a mind of its own at times and it just p****s me off to no end. I'd like to figure out a relatively safe treatment to use to straighten it out some, I don't use much of any chemicals in my hair so I'd like something gentle, none of this lye crap.

Any suggestions?

I saw some products marketed to [mostly] black women but they all required gloves and plastic hats and shit.. if it burns your skin it CAN'T be good for your hair.. have you heard of any products specifically?

You mean like the hair iron? I could try that.. they have some new models that use pressure over high heat and supposedly less damaging with hair. I guess what I was *sorta* hoping for was recommendations of products people here have used.. I guess it is more of a chick thing.

I was under the impression that it had gloves and the hat because it would stain your skin, much like iodine (which isn't bad for you fyi)

Sure.. if it's hair *dye* I would expect nothing less. But this isn't a dye. It's a chemical hair straightener... I guess I just don't see why a hair straightener would stain your skin......

If your hair wants to be kinky, who are you to stifle it's true nature?
Let it be free to BE.

...and on other days, (if its long enough) ya might think of using the kind of blow dryer that has a comb with it and control shape it while it dries. Least that is what i do. I have shoulder length hair that is thick and likes to wave and on rainy days, go curly frizzzzzy. Blow dryer and some hair product and voila, I got the straight sleek thing goin on. Without the hair product though, (like a setting gel) you are doomed on a humid day.

Live in San Fran? LOL good luck.

I know 2 women with very curly hair who just blow dry it right out of the shower with one of those round brushes and it straightens it out remarkably well.

No chemicals.

Ahh the joys of being straight and watching a women blow dry curly hair fresh out of the shower.

Welcom to the team.

There is a hair straightening method that's relatively new in salons...say, within the last two or three years...not sure what is involved, and it IS pricey....but it lasts a long time <shrug> I'm sure that chemicals must be involved, tho...

It depends on how long your hair is. If your hair is fairly short then blow drying probably isn't going to cut it. If you really want to straighten it out then you should just break down and pay someone to chemical treat it. The damage to your hair from blow drying is probably equal to chemical treatment after long enough :\.

dont change a thing! youre **** the way you are, and if it really bothers you with run away stray stragles then i suggest something like the vo5 creme.

ya use a pea amount rub it between hands to warma nd run fingers through hair, it also gives your hair that healthy shine to it (not greasy looking) so ya have hollywood looking hair!

if its really really bad you could use the good ole brell creme but .. ugh that stuff is greasy!

Actually, using Lubriderm is an age old secret for doing the same thing--holding strays in place ..without making your hair shinier or with that "crispy" feeling.....

Lubriderm=moisturizer, one of the best because it doesn't sit on your skin, doesn't clog up pores the way heavier moisturizers do, and does what it is supposed to do--moisturize! Plus it comes unscented, for sensitive skin, which rocks...it allows me to smell the perfume that I paid a fortune for :p

One thing I noticed with most of thos products is you still need to use a blowdryer. I have a little wave in my hair and to get it straight I use the "Ion" blowdrier. It damages hair considerably less than a regular one or the ones with the brushes. Also, those ones with the brushes tend to break hair because as you heat hair it becomes brittle and the brushes they come with are really hard plastic. My suggestion, since your hair isn't that long, Get the Ion, and a regular brush (preferably one with soft bristles and holes on the head to allow air flow which helps with the drying process). Use a little bit of any of the products above and blow dry it straight. Should hold for at least a day or two at a time.

Flat out is still the best stuff we've come across at home.
Both Draggyn and I have VERY long hair...my hair is well over 3' long off the nape of my neck when it's straight (yes it hits me mid buttocks Smile )
Draggyn's is about mid back now as he had a good bit cut off in March.
We both have very wavey hair...and using the blow drier on cool setting, just using the air to dry it with the flat out works well.

if you're referring to thermal reconditioning, yes, it does involve chemicals.

They apply the chemicals much like they do with the more traditional hair straightening, and then use a flat iron with the chemicals still in the hair.

Once you get it done, though, prepare to have perfectly straight hair with not a bit of curl to it. While this may sound good, this also means that you won't be able to add curl back with a curling iron, so you'd better be sure you really like straight hair.

I've never had it done myself, because the cost is prohibitive for me, but I've had many discussions with several stylists about it.
