Ever since I got XP I never shut down my PCs anymore, just hibernate them. But a lot of times my desktop system hangs when it's trying to unhibernate and it's been annoying me for months. I finally realized what the problem is: if I get impatient and wiggle the mouse while it's unhibernating it will hang and I'll have to reboot. If I don't touch the mouse it comes up fine.
Of course it's a microsoft intellimouse with latest drivers. No wonder it doesn't work right with microsoft software. I finally ordered an MX700 - I'll bet it will work fine

agreed.
I always shut down. Too often software is poorly written and memory gets eaten away without the reboot.

I never used to shut my systems down at all, and I agree the suspend stuff in windows 98 was useless.
But since XP I've been using the mode where it writes everything out to disk and powers itself completely off (hibernate, or suspend to disk, or whatever it's called) and that works fine. Especially on my laptop - I've got four or five 600 pg word documents open, an acrobat document, two different media players, half a dozen browsers, outlook, and a bunch of folders open - it's too much trouble to start all that stuff up all the time - I seriously bet I haven't actually rebooted it in 6 weeks, but I hibernate it twice a day at least, and it's fine.

If you lived in America, you could get some good quality Japanese imported TVs
