|
|
|
I will use this as an example:
Goraz: "Who said I no longer play FFXI?
I have a life. I'm not hardcoring this game like EQ and snorting crack at the stroke of 12 to pull an all nighter so I can get that ub3r l337 swordz and I r teh virtu4l pen1x man!"
What does that even mean? Just because you don't play games all the time means you are better than someone who does?
I work every day from 5am-1pm, the rest of my day I spend playing video games(console/pc/etc). I choose to do this because this is what I love. I've been playing games since I was 4 years old on atari. This is my life, and I enjoy every minute of it. I do my laundry, pay my rent, make my own food just as anyone else would. But when I have free time, you can bet your ass I'm either at a movie or playing a game.
Just because I don't enjoy going out to bars and going to clubs doesn't make me any less of a person than anyone else. So in essense, this phrase "Get a life" makes absolutely no sense used in that context.

What they are really suggesting is that you get a copy of there life so you can be like them and have babies.

I think they mean getting a life as in please leave your house at least 3 times a week for things other than work or groceries.

its becaouse people missuse it verry often. "Get a diffrent life" or "Get a life that is more acceptable to my standards" is better...

That phrase has confused me for the longest time, too. It's too often used innappropriately.

its your life to live. i'm not gonna sit here and state all the things i do that society deems good behavior.
if your a productive person as in, contributes to society in SOME way like the rest of us, whether it be running a country, or watering the flowers on the side of the road, what you do with your free time is your business, and not a single person has the right to judge what YOU do with YOUR free time.
personally though, i do think that playing too many video games can be bad for your health.
that is an ok statement i think, because i'm staying my personal views on something, i'm not passing my judgement and scorn onto you in any way. if you disagree, thats completely fine, because its your body and time, not mine.
why can't people just learn to live they're own lives and let others live theres? of course there are reasons to interject...alcoholism, drug abuse, abuse of anything for that matter (including video games) when it gets to a point that it is damaging the person that your aqquainted to.
otherwise, think about what your own life and try and better yourself instead of others.

I am a hardcore gamer as well. My free time is either spent at the gym or on games/movies. People are always giving me shit about it, and I have been told to "Get a life" before.
To be honest though, I never really though about the phrase till now though heh.

I wrote a 1600 word article on idiot catch-phrases like "get a life" and "the real world". Doubt RP has the attention span to consume it tho.

Clint0s... I could get you a contract job for like $12hr =). I don't have any hiring athority with MS.
Plus, what are you gonna put on your resume for past experience? "Hi, I'm Clint. I Was a Dark elf, then a Lizard, then became Uggy, then....."

I wasted a lot of time in front of the glass tube, staring at all the perty colors. I missed out on a lot that was going on irl because of that. I don't remember a whole lot from playing EQ and what I do remember doesn't matter at all. Its just space in my brain filled with useless information. I think what they mean by "get a life", at least its what I would mean. Is to find things IRL that you like doing as much as sitting in front of the glass tube staring at the colors. Things that involve sharing air with real people.
