I admit that I have never been impressed with the graphics in World of Warcraft. I play the game, I like it a lot, but somehow, several other MMOs all have more realistic, more beautiful graphics and design. Why is that? I know that developers intentionally made the game look a bit unrealistic, cartoonish I could say, but couldn’t they make it better?

Well, that cartoonish style has been following Warcraft serial since the game one, so it is quite natural it will be like that in the WoW. Also, we are talking about MMO, and somewhat poor graphics (or should I say, not so rich as in other games) is due to the fact that large number of people plays this game, and demanding of each to have a powerful machine is just not fair.

You are right. Imagine playing with several other live players and the graphics requires that you have some PC monster to show each detail on all players perfectly. And when we know that there are millions of players, you realize that having a high detail graphics is out of the question.

Graphics could be better, more detailed and design is ok, but it also could be more impressive. As for the machine you need for WoW, most of the people today already have powerful ones, due to the hundreds of other PC games that require the latest graphic card, for example. Also, Vista itself, which will most probably be implemented in most of the PCs in a near future, needs a strong computer.

I'm sure someone else has already said this but they wanted to stick true to the lore of World of Warcraft. If you look at the graphics in Warcraft 3, they are pretty much the same thing. Even though it is not my cup of tea, I am extremely impressed with how Blizzard made the graphics look like you were in the Warcraft 3 world and landscape.... Some maps are different though... If you go back and look at "The Plaguelands" map from Warcraft 3, it is a lot brighter and greener before the plague hit.... Pretty interesting.

That's the thing that I think about WOW though. Sure, the game doesn't look the best, but that just pulls in people with low-end computers, generating more money for Blizzard.

If you have a higher end PC it tends to look nicer, but I do believe it is time for a graphics update.

I admit other games have better graphics, but WoW gameplay beats games such as age of conan head on.
